It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Joaquim (Jack). He is survived by his devoted wife and best friend of 69 years, Maria Virginia (Gina) De Almeida. Dearly missed by his children Fernando (Lucy) and Fatima (Eugene). Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Vanessa (Randy), Daniela (Jordan), Alexa (Daniel), Lucas and his great-grandchildren Jack and Ava who will cherish his memory forever.
Jack was known for his radiant blue eyes, infectious smile and his deep love for his family. He immigrated to Canada from Portugal to create a better life for those he loved. Along the way, Jack became a dedicated business owner who built and ran his Shell gas station for many years, serving his local community with a strong work ethic and unwavering commitment. His entrepreneurial spirit and generosity left a lasting impact on all that knew him, and his work was not just a job but a passion. He built more than just a business—he built relationships that spanned decades and laid the foundation of trust and respect.
Outside of his work, Jack found joy in the outdoors and travelling. Whether hunting in the quiet of the woods or spending time surrounded by nature, he cherished the peace and connection that came from the beauty of the world including his homeland. But above all, his greatest love was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, always happiest when surrounded by his loved ones. His home was a place where laughter and love were shared freely, and his presence made every gathering special.
Many will fondly remember Jack with his love for vehicles, his work as a licensed mechanic, his famous backyard barbeques, and for serving his friends – whom he affectionately called “clients”- behind his iconic bar at Louis Drive. His infectious personality and sense of humour brought people together and whether offering a kind word, a listening ear, or a cold drink, he was a man who made everyone feel at home.
In the later years of his life, Jack faced the challenge of Parkinson’s disease with the same strength and dignity that had always defined him. Though the illness affected his body, it never dimmed his spirit, his smile, or his love for those around him. He continued to live life on his own terms, remaining an inspiration to his family and friends through his courage, resilience, and will to live for his family.
Jack leaves behind a legacy that will continue through everyone who was blessed enough to have known him. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Thank you, Jack, for the countless memories you gave us all.
