Joao Lopes passed away on October 31st, 2020 in his home surrounded by loved ones. He was adored by all. Joao was born and raised in Sao Miguel (Azores), Portugal. He grew up in a loving and happy home. He served in the military and was stationed in Mozambique. After his military service, he married Fatima Da Cunha in 1969, and then moved to Canada in 1973, where they raised three sons together.

Joao is lovingly remembered by his wife Fatima, children John Paul (Eduarda), George (Cathy), Rob (Matoula) and grandchildren Jessica, Daniel, Alexis, Kristin and Melina. Beloved son of Joao Francisco and Teresa. Brother of Gilda (Silvino), Luisa (Jose), Manuel (Lidia), Teresa (Dinis), Jose (Noemia), Fatima (David). Beloved son in law of Maria Do Carmo (Mariano Da Cunha), Brother in law to Adelia (Jose), Ana Paula, Roberto (Edula). Fondly remembered by many nephews, nieces, extended family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, we have decided we will be donating any funds received to our Aunt in Venezuela (our dad's sister), whose house was flooded due to heavy rainfall. This is how we can honour Joao, as we know this is something he would have wanted. Matoula will be taking care of collecting all donations for the family.
