In memory of

Joannis (John) Doukas

July 26, 1946 -  March 18, 2022

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Joannis Doukas on March 18, 2022, at the age of 75. He will be remembered and cherished by his wife of 50 years, Athina, his children Sophia (Harry), Paul (Jenny) and Jim, and his grandchildren Alyssa (Nicholas), Kyle, Hayden and James.

Joannis, also known as John by many of his friends and family, was born in Goranoi, Greece on July 26, 1946. In 1963 John arrived at Pier 21 in Halifax after a long trip from his home village in Greece. He was only 16 years old when he decided to leave his country for a chance at a better future. Early life in Canada was very difficult for him as he faced many hardships, from trying to communicate with a language barrier to working long hours to provide for his family, John never gave up. He risked everything he had in hopes of providing the best life for his family and his hard work paid off.

If there is one word that can be used to remember John, it would be family. There is nothing more in this world that he loved more than his family and this was evident in every passing day. John was a caring man who will be remembered and loved by all of those who have had the pleasure of knowing him. He will be forever loved and missed by his wife Athina. As a loving father, he will be deeply missed by his children Sophia, Paul, and Jim. His grandchildren Alyssa, Kyle, Hayden and James will forever cherish the everlasting memories made with their Pappou. Rest in peace John, may your memory be eternal.

Family and friends will be received at St. Panteleimon Greek Orthodox Church of Markham, 11323 Warden Avenue, Markham, on Monday, March 21, 2022 at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Beechwood Cemetery, 7241 Jane Street, Concord.

In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in John's memory. Friends may do so by clicking the 'Donations' tab on this memorial page. Thank you for all your kindness and support during this difficult time.

Koubaro John will be missed. I remember so many get-togethers at my parents house. I always looked forward to those visits with his lovely wife and their children. We all would laugh and have a good time. Priceless memories.

So sorry to hear of this passing. You were so loved by your family, I only know Jimmy but I know how much he absolutely loved and looked up to his father, as a parent and a role model.
You were a great man to have raised such a wonderful son. ❤️

Mike and I send our love and prayers to the entire Doukas family. Such a kind, gentle soul…remembering John during some of the large family gatherings over the years, always welcoming, always quiet, always a twinkle on his eyes watching the little ones.
Deepest condolences, and May John’s memory be eternal❤️
