In memory of

Joan Roberta Simpson

September 30, 1935 -  October 11, 2024

Joan Roberta Simpson (Charters) was born in Hamilton on September 30, 1935 and passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday October 11, 2024.

Joan grew up in Hamilton with her brother Russell (d), sister Frances (d), and is survived by her sister Chris who will miss their weekly phone calls.

Joan joined CIBC in 1952 where she later met a dashing young man named Campbell Simpson. It didn’t take long until they fell in love and were married in 1958. Joan was happily married to Campbell (1933-2015) for 57 years.

She was a loving Mother to Ian and Janet and took great pride in raising her children and by all accounts did a wonderful job shaping them into the compassionate, “TIDY”, adults they have become.

Joan worked in CIBC until 1991 and helped many people secure mortgage to purchase their first homes and made many lifelong friends along the way. After retirement she continued working for Intria 3-4 days for a further 15 years. She volunteered her time with UCWA at St Bartholomew’s United Church for many years and was very active in many of the social aspects of the Condominium where she lived for 20 years. Joan was known to tell a good joke on occasion, enjoyed a game of cards and routinely played Euchre and Poker with her Condo family. She spent her final evening with this group of friends at their weekly happy hour.

She bravely conquered her fear of water making early years weekend trips by wooden boat across Big Gul Lake to the cottage built by Campbell in 1967. The cottage became the heart of the Simpson & Calwell clan. The lifelong friendships established on Chimney Point Lan will continue as her legacy up “North” live on.

Joan loved her Grandchildren and was very involved in their lives, attending hockey games, baseball games, cheerleading competitions theatre productions and never missed the many daycare concerts. She is survived by her older sister Chris MacLanders, son Ian (Linda), daughter Janet (Clark) and her 4 grandchildren Ben (Nicole), Jennifer, Tyler (Gina) and Matthew.

Joan will be forever remembered for her sense of humour and loved for making this a world a better place.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Meadowvale Cemetery & Funeral Centres in Brampton on Sunday October 20th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be welcomed in her honour.

Joan and I met years ago and developed a friendship with her and Cam. We always had a good laugh and a joke to tell. She was a very generous person. I will miss her.

Joan was such a great friend of my mom’s and they shared many good times. I got to know Joan over the last few years attending the great times at the condo both before and after my mother passed. Joan had a wonderful sense of humour and a special way about her. I will miss her as I still miss my own mother. Joan, I hope you guys are having a great time together.
My sympathies to the family and friends who lost a great soul.

It is with great sadness I heard of Joan's passing. She was one of my mom's closest friends (Condo family) and then soon became an extended member of our family after our mom passed. She was extremely funny and a wonderful person. I am grateful I had the opportunity to get to know her the last few years.
She will be truly missed.
To Joan's family, my thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. Just remember your mom is a star in heaven and will forever shine down upon you.
