In memory of

Joan Mary Hazlett

June 28, 1929 -  July 4, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family of Joan Mary Hazlett announces her passing on July 4th, 2023.

Joan was born on a summer day in 1929. As those who knew her well can attest, her presence was felt like an endless summer. She was as generous in spirit as she was with her oven warm tea biscuits. Joan lived life with grace, and just as the title of her memoirs suggests, she did “Bloom where she was planted”.

Joan will be lovingly remembered & sadly missed by her children Andrew James
(Debbie), Ian Gordon (Madelaine), Brian Taylor (Jill) and Beverley
Anne Thibert (Jay), her grandchildren Andy Cameron, Duncan Griffith, James
Herbert, Alexandra Maria, Ivan Andrew, Gail Marie, Leslie Anne,
Heather Erin, Graham Cameron & Stuart Taylor, her great grandchildren
Charlotte, Isla, Cameron, Sean, Colton, Bryson, Austin, Lilianna and
her dear cousin Joan Elizabeth (nee Helm) Fitch.

Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband of 73 years, Andrew Griffith Hazlett, her daughter Barbara Joan (Ivan) and her parents James & Mabel (nee Taylor) Currie.

On Nov 5,1949 Joan married her sweetheart Andy, and they set up house on Caribou Rd. in Toronto.
The growing family moved twice within the city, and acquired a farm in Cookstown. Joan & Andy happily raised their 5 children, enjoying both city and country life, until finally settling permanently
on the farm. A skilled horsewoman, dog fancier, birdwatcher, gardener, painter/artist, poet, writer & Sunday School teacher, Joan could “bake an apple pie quick as a cat could wink an eye” or lovingly raise an orphaned lamb.

Joan went to be with the Lord peacefully in her sleep on July 4th, 2023 at the age of 94 years.

Thank you for your love & devotion to our family.

“May flights of Angels sing thee to thy rest”
