In memory of

Joan Lamb

January 12, 1930 -  October 31, 2021

LAMB, LETITIA JOAN (née SULLIVAN), January 12, 1930 – October 31, 2021. It is with great sadness we announce that our beloved mom, Joan, passed away at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, in her 92nd year, after a brief illness, and after several years of failing health and a long struggle with depression and anxiety. Loving and beloved wife for 57 years of the late Benjamin (2015). Loving mother of Kathleen, Peter (Tracey), and Marion (Geoff Gregson). Devoted grandmother of Bethany (Tim Shields); Gavin, Leith, and Brianna Wrightman; Seth Lamb; and Alaina Gregson Lamb. Adoring great grandmother of Theo and Evan. She will be missed and remembered lovingly by her nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Toronto, Joan was a proud alumna of St. Clement’s, attending many reunions over the years. After graduating from Victoria College, University of Toronto, with a bachelor’s degree in Modern Languages, Joan taught primary school until her marriage. As an active member of Blythwood Road Baptist Church, she assisted refugee families and chaired the board of Blythwood Nursery School, among other activities. She also devoted countless hours to other causes including sponsoring children and volunteering at the Lyndhurst Centre. In later years at Yorkminster Park Baptist Church, Joan enjoyed close fellowship with the Dorcas group. From childhood, Joan spent many happy summers in Muskoka, and she shared her love of the cottage with family, friends, and many others who were often invited for a meal and a swim. Joan and Ben loved to travel, and they made friends wherever they went, including, in later years, during their winter sojourns in Clearwater. Joan nurtured longstanding and lasting friendships, and she cherished her lifelong friends from the Trident Club. She was warm, hospitable, and kind. She took a friendly interest in the lives and stories of others and endeared herself to many. She will be dearly missed by her caregivers who supported her over 15 years, and to whom we are truly thankful, especially her companions, Narcisa and Rosy. Their care and devotion made it possible for Joan to continue to live at her home where she was most comfortable and socially active until recent restrictions. Thank you to Dr. C. Cohen for her support and counselling, and to the doctors and nurses at Sunnybrook. Memorial donations to Yorkminster Park Baptist Church or CAMH would be appreciated greatly.

Joan was a favorite person in my life. We have known each other for many years, first during the summers up at Golden Beach, then later on Avenue Road where both our families lived close together. As adults, my partner and I became close to Joan and Ben, having many suppers together. When my partner and I moved to Victoria, we were visited by Joan and Ben and had a wonderful time catching up on each other's news. Joan and I managed on most years to contact each other on our respective birthdays. I will very much miss Joan, but I have such good memories of her as a person that I truly admired.

Gail and I wish to express our sympathy to all of Joan's immediate family on her passing. Our family has fond memories of Joan at numerous events. Aunt Joan was a wonderful person who was always interested in what we were up to. The family enjoyed getting together at their condo for occasions such as family Christmas and special birthdays for everyone. She was always very accommodating and enjoyed visiting relatives and dropping by for a visit including Whitby just recently. I remember a special time with Aunt Joan during one of my bicycle trips with a friend in my teenage years. We got caught up in a torrential downpour and we realized we were close to Aunt Joan and Uncle Ben's cottage. We got soaking wet riding to find their cottage and had eaten little that day. Aunt Joan quickly prepared some dinner for us and invited us to stay over until the weather cleared and made us feel very welcome. Aunt Joan will always be remembered as a kind, thoughtful and patient individual. We hope that looking back on special moments regarding her will help with the passing of a very special lady. May the Lord be with your family at this difficult time.

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Joan. She was, as the obituary said, a "warm, hospitable and kind" person who "took a friendly interest in the lives of others and endeared herself to many." I will miss our wonderful phone conversations. My father's mother (Kezia (nee Sullivan) Peterson (1878-1966) was the older sister of Joan's father Herbert Sullivan (1892-1958).
