In memory of

Joan La Mantia

July 15, 1956 -  August 4, 2023

Born in Hamilton Ontario.

On the afternoon of August 4, 2023 at Brampton Civic Hospital after repeated hospitalizations with aspiration pneumonia.

Our hearts are sorrowful but not without hope as we convey to you the passing of our sweet youngest sister Joan “Joannie” at the age of 67. Reunited with our mother and father Francesca and Calogero La Mantia and our first-born brother in the presence of our Heavenly Father. She will be greatly missed by her sisters and brother Lina Di Marco, Bessie Di Sabatino (Sam), Mary Damiani, Vitina La Mantia, Frank La Mantia (Judy) Esther Smith (Keith), nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Joan had an amazing zest for life and was the happiest when there were a lot of people around and a lot of activities to be involved in such as Church, Friendship Club, day programs, going for walks, outings to concerts, bowling, trips, birthday parties, music lessons and art classes. She was fully engaged and contagious in her joy and the love and acceptance she would show to all. She also enjoyed her solitude when making art. For hours, she would spend painting with watercolors. Joan’s greatest love and achievement was her involvement with the Creative Spirit Art Centre where she worked alongside other artists, where her work was featured at art exhibitions. Joan had a God given unexplainable inner strength that brought her through many challenges in her life. A very special lady purposefully placed in our family by a loving Heavenly Father.

Please accept my condolences on the loss of your beloved sister Joan. Absent from the body but present with the Lord.
I came to meet Joan many years ago when I became a good friend of Joan’s sister Esther.
I also came to know one of her other sisters Vitina.
Vitina especially cared for Joan for many years and has been so selfless and devoted to her sister. May God bless and keep you all in your time of loss and give you peace

Wish we were able to be there to celebrate Joan and spend time with the family too. Every memory I have of Joan is a joyful and sweet one. So grateful for my aunt Vitina and the care that she extended to her sister for such a long period of time. Praying for my wonderful aunts and uncle as you mourn and celebrate her experiencing a beautiful “new” with Jesus.

Love,
Matt, Margaret, Reuben and Levin
