In memory of

Jessie (Irene) Higginson

October 29, 1932 -  July 15, 2021

Jessie (Irene) Higginson passed away on July 15th 2021 in her 89th year after a battle with cancer at her favourite place in the world, her cottage. Surrounded by her daughters Barbara, Beverley, Beth and Brenda, her granddaughter Christine, son-n-law Frank and dog Charolette. Predeceased by her beloved husband Charles (Chuck) Higginson and their son Graham. Together again.

She will be lovingly remembered and missed by all her friends and neighbours, her brother Bob, nieces Jenny, Gail and nephew Tom. Absolutely cherished Grandmother to Jessica, Frankie, Charlie, Christine, Scott, Cole, Graham and Matthew.

Mom will always be remembered for her hundreds of recipe’s and her love of cooking and baking. Mom's love of rainbows and cloud covered skies and beautiful sunrises will forever remind us of her. She will eternally be in our hearts.

Thank you to the Lakeridge Health Palliative Care Team and special thanks to Dr. Azi who patiently navigated us through moms journey peacefully and comfortably. We will forever be grateful for having that support during this covid pandemic which allowed Mom to be at her beloved cottage with all her family.

Thank you to the Haliburton Palliative care team, nurses and PSW’s with all their support and compassion in help caring for Mom during this difficult time. A special thank you to Palliative care nurses Erin, and Amber and moms favourite PSW Savannah.

As per her wishes, a private family service will be held after cremation.

Donations to the Haliburton Highlands Health Services Foundation or to the Lakeridge Health Oshawa Cancer Care Foundation.

She was so wise, kind and loving. I loved hearing about her life, her love of movies and cookbooks, and her ability to see the best in people. I loved how she spoke about each of her children, appreciating them so deeply for who they were. I learned so much from her and my kids felt so loved and welcomed by her, always. There won’t be another like her and I’m so glad we got to know her.

I will always think of my cousin Rene as Auntie Rene because she was more like a sister to my Mom than a niece. She was my God Mother and, although I hadn't seen her in decades, I was so delighted that we reconnected years ago through phone calls and letters.

Over the years we enjoyed many chats with Mrs. Higginson at the cottage. We were always welcomed over for a visit/swim/and to search through her collection of books and VHS movies. She will be deeply missed but always remembered.
