In memory of

Jean Marie Reimann

December 10, 1923 -  December 23, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jean Marie Reimann (nee Smibert), a remarkable woman who embraced life to the fullest and left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have known her. She peacefully passed away on December 23rd, 2023, at the age of 100, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on December 10th, 1923, Jean navigated a century with grace, resilience, and a spirit that radiated warmth to all who knew her. She was a woman of strength, determination, and unwavering independence.

Jean was predeceased by her beloved husband Max. Their enduring love and partnership of 60 years were a testament to the commitment they shared throughout their lives.

A dedicated and passionate teacher/librarian even in retirement, Jean spent the majority of her career surrounded by the written word, imparting her love for literature to countless individuals. Her influence extended beyond the library walls, touching the lives of those she encountered with her wisdom and encouragement.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Jean found solace and joy in the serenity of Paudash Lake. Many cherished memories were created during the countless summers spent at the cottage, surrounded by friends who became an extended family. The laughter, camaraderie, and shared moments by the lake were a source of immense happiness for Jean, leaving an enduring imprint on her heart.

In her retirement years, Jean continued to embrace an active and engaged lifestyle. Residing in an independent living facility (Amica Newmarket), she became an integral part of the community, contributing her time and energy to various activities. Her zest for life and her ability to connect with others made her a cherished friend to many.

Jean is survived by her loving son John (Teresa), her granddaughter Jessica (Dave Gairns), her grandson Joshua (Sam Bowman) and her great-grandson Renner. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and a commitment to living life with purpose.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who shared in Jean’s journey and contributed to the richness of her life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Southlake Regional Health Centre in Jean’s memory.

Jean’s life will be celebrated with family and friends Thursday, Dec. 28th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday, Dec. 29th from 9 to 10:15 a.m. at Elgin Mills Cemetery (1591 Elgin Mills Road E., Richmond Hill). A short service will be conducted from 10:15 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friends and family are invited to join in remembering this extraordinary woman and sharing the impact she had on their lives. The interment will follow at Mount Albert Cemetery (19675 Centre Street), where she will be laid to rest beside Max. The Reimann family invites you to share in a luncheon afterwards at 12:30 p.m. at Brooks Farm (“The Barn”), 122 Ashworth Road, Mount Albert.

May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may her memory continue to inspire us all.
