In memory of

Jean Isabelle Keen

April 23, 1950 -  February 4, 2024

It is with much sadness and hope in the Resurrection of our Lord that we announce the falling asleep of Jean Isabelle Keen on Sunday February 4, 2024.

Born on April 23, 1950, Jean was an Orthodox Christian who loved her Lord Jesus Christ and His Church.

Jean also enjoyed watching figure skating, especially Stars on Ice. One of her greatest thrills was when Yuka Sato came out of the tour bus specifically to sign her program.

When Jean was young, she made the front page of the Moosonee newspaper as she made a perfect curtsey for the Governor General, Vincent Massey.

Jean proudly joined the Markham District Veterans Association to honour her father, Ed Garnet who was a radio operator in the RCAF, and her mother, Margaret who was a Nurse Sister in London during the Blitz. This was during WWII. Jean was a Relative Member.

Jean earned her Bachelor of Commerce (B.Comm.) degree at Concordia University, then earned her Certified General Accountants (CGA) designation. Later she received her Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.

Jean was CEO of 21st Century Accounting Inc., building up her cliental by visiting their premises.

Jean was happily married to Brian Keen and looked forward to their date nights every Sunday night. Together they read Scripture and prayed for other people.

May Her Memory be Eternal.

It was with great sorrow that we received the news of the passing of our beloved friend Jean (Jelena)!

Jean was a beautiful person inside and out.
We know that she suffered a lot due to her serious illness in recent times. However, she endured all of it with great dignity.
We never heard her complaining about the unbearable and excruciating pain, and we never heard her whining: "Why me?".
Even in her last few days on earth, and despite all the pain and discomfort, she was asking about our daughter’s well-being!

We were blessed to know her and her husband Brian over the years.

We will always remember Jean for her pleasant personality, her kindness and lovely smile.

We hold dear memories of her pious participation in the Divine Liturgy, and of the attention she exercised when partaking of the Holy Communion during the church services.

She loved celebrating the Orthodox Easter and we always enjoyed the special, naturally dyed Pascha eggs, and the delicious festive buns that she and Brian distributed to friends every year.

It was always a joy to spend some time over coffee with Jean and Brian, following the services at the church.

These were just a few of the significant traits that highlighted her beautiful personality.

We believe that she made an impact on many lives. Her departure has surely left a deep wound that is gravely felt by all the people who knew her.
However, the memories we shared with her provide comfort in our journey through this great loss.

She will be forever missed. Until we meet again.

May our Lord's profound love rest Jean's soul with His Saints and bring her husband Brian comfort, consolation, and perfect peace at this difficult time and in all the days ahead!

I have worked closely with Jean at Lynde Dermatology for several years. It has been a true pleasure to have known her. Jean was always so helpful processing and dealing with all the research financial issues I needed . You have been missed all these weeks since you became unwell and I will miss seeing your smiling face sitting in the chair next to me. Rest easy my friend. You have earned your angel wings.
