In memory of

Jean Elizabeth Watt

May 24, 1936 -  September 14, 2025

We are profoundly saddened to announce the passing of Jean Elizabeth Watt in her 89th year after a short stay at Credit Valley Hospital Cardiac Care Unit. She is survived by her husband of 68yrs, Lawrence (Laurie) Watt, of Streetsville, her two sons, Dave (Beverly), Greg (Mary), and grandchildren, Sarah, Jessica and Alex, niece Leigh Pedlar(Harris), great niece Caitlin Pedlar, great nephew James Pedlar(Laura), nephew Ed Pinchin(Bryn), nephew Doug Spear(Chris), niece Leslie Spear, sister-in-law Marcia Spear . Special thanks go out to the staff at CVH Cardio Unit, Brittany, Sharron and Dylan who made Moms stay comfortable.
Jean was born at 30 Queen St, Streetsville (NOT Mississauga) as mom used to make very clear. She was a lifelong member of Streetsville United Church sitting in the same pew from age 12, we would joke that the pew seat had moms bum print worn into it, Mrs. Harley always made sure no one sat in moms spot, “sorry that’s Jean Watts seat”. Mom loved her garden and was a lifelong member of Streetsville Horticultural Society, sharing plants and visiting gardens with dad during the season. Mom was also the “go to” person for information on Streetsville, a longtime member of the Streetsville Historical Society, if you needed to know who, what, why, when, where, how something happened in town you could call mom, she prided herself on her knowledge of her hometown. On a walk through Streetsville with her granddaughters, Sarah and Jessica noted “everyone knows you and you know everyone, they all wave at you and you at them, like the Queen grandma. You're the Queen of Streetsville”, that stuck! If you knew mom or dad or any of the Family you
were likely the recipient of moms’ banana bread at some point, dad would kid that he never got any as it was always being sent elsewhere. If you ever stopped by for a visit on a Wednesday, you were likely greeted by John Denver being blasted through the house while mom vacuumed, she loved her John Denver, we were listening to Leaving on a Jet Plane when mom passed. The biggest part of Moms’ story is the love of her life Laurie (dad), they met through Uncle Dave Spear at age 12 and the spark was ignited. Dad and Uncle Dave became best friends for life and Mom and Dad began their journey. Married at 27 and together for 68yrs it was the truest of love stories not to be repeated. Holding hands while walking, being spoiled, Mom and Dad were the perfect teachers of a life well lived and what true love looks like.
Mom and Dad travelled to England, France, Egypt, across Canada, Bermuda but no matter how grand the trip, mom was always glad to be HOME, Streetsville, 48 William St as she would say. 61 yrs in the same home, who can say that anymore.
If you were befriended by mom, you had a true, loyal friend for life. I could go on and on, how do you summarize such a full life of 89yrs? We, I love you Mom and will miss you greatly. May the Queen of Streetsville Rest in Peace.

I will miss you dearly, you are the kindest, sweetest human being I’ve ever met, you taught me about love and family, I will miss our friendship, sharing a glass of wine or two, your laughter. I will always cherish our time together, thank you for being the best mother-in-law, I am truly blessed to have been a part of your family ❤️🙏🕊️

Marcia Spear (Sister-in-law)

One of my dearest friends since meeting her brother in 1959. She always made me comfortable in the Spear family and loved Dave’s and my children as her own.

I miss her so much already.

Sending my deepest sympathies to the entire family. “Aunt” Jean was a joy to know. She was always up for a chat on their back porch with a tin of peanuts for the squirrels or over a glass of wine at a BBQ . I have many pictures of her with a big smile surrounded by her family. She’s left her mark on all of us and she will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.
Cheers to a full life well lived. Chris

I had the absolute pleasure of knowing Jean through Dave and Bev. One of my memories (other than the being a recipient of the famous delicious banana bread) was having a lovely Thanksgiving dinner with Jean and Laurie at Dave and Bev’s and had great night chatting and eating of course. Dave your mom was a lovely lady and I’m happy I got to spend time with her. Thinking of you all during this time and may she rest in peace. Xoxo

We have had some great times together, Jean and I would go to Sherway Gardens Antique Show every year and had lunch out. Later on we went to garage sales and really had a great time. I will miss her phone calls just to chat. We also went to the Streetsville Historical Society meeting together, she will be missed at the meetings.
We had many barbecues at their home and attended quite a few anniversaries for them. Also Christmas parties at our home. Jean will be terribly missed🌹❤️
