Jean Barbara Applewaithe

May 26, 1936 -  November 28, 2023

Jean Barbara Applewaithe, was born in 1936 in Georgetown Guyana. She died peacefully, surrounded by her family and loved ones on November 28th, 2023, at the age of 87.

Jean is survived by her children, Nigel, Allison (Terryence), Ann-Marie, Monty (Marion) and Annette (Desmond) and her beautiful grandchildren, Adrian, Jonathan, Samurai, Dante and Dallas. As well as her brothers, David, Ronald, and Norman, and sisters Jackie, Eileen, Carole and Evelyn, and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Olive and Carl, brothers Patrick, Billy, Clive, Desmond and Winston and sisters Joyce and Anita.

Jean grew up in Georgetown, Guyana with her parents, and many brothers and sisters. This is where she enjoyed spending time with her family and playing basketball. She was known for her speed and skill on the basketball court. Jean was named captain of her basketball team, her name was often mentioned in the local newspaper and she was considered for Miss Basketball 1959.

Jean married Clive Applewaithe on June 4th, 1960 and they lived together in Guyana until 1969 when Clive moved to Toronto, found work and sent for Jean and their 4 children. Shortly after arriving in Toronto, they had another child in 1970. After a few years in Canada, they bought their first house and Toronto became their forever home. After 60 years of marriage, Clive passed away in 2020.

Jean was a dedicated wife and a loving mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and aunt. She build a career with the Ontario Government and worked hard to provide a good life for her children. She loved her family unconditionally and worked tirelessly to provide her children with opportunities she never had . She was kind, thoughtful, compassionate, gentle and welcoming to everyone she met. She was a joy to be around and always put the needs of others, over her own. She had a heart of gold and her kindness was felt by all who met her.

Jean will be forever remembered and greatly missed.

I will always remember the kindness of Mrs Applewaithe and the warm way she greeted both myself and my late sister June everything we met. Her grace and humility was evident and it is no surprise that she touched the life of everyone she met. Rest in eternal peace with your dear husband.

The heaven has got another angel! Ms. Applewaite will be greatly missed. She had an amazing smile that light up her face and everyone around her. Her personality was so warm and she was a happy person.
