In memory of

Janice Pollard

January 21, 1949 -  January 18, 2020

It is with great sadness that the Pollard family announce the death of our beloved Janice on January 18, 2020 at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa. She passed gently in the early morning hours at the age of seventy with her husband (Joseph) and daughter (Victoria) by her side. She is so dearly missed by Joe and Victoria, her son John and his spouse Jennifer Bush, as well as her brother John Bennett and his wife Amanda.

Janice survived Stage 4 ovarian cancer for fourteen months. She was a titan. Her granddaughter (Noelle) wrote that she had “strength beyond compare.” It is true. Janice’s challenges this past year were many and terrifying and she faced each of them, as she always did, with grace and dignity and boundless, unwavering love for those dearest to her.

Janice held a special place in her heart for her grandchildren, Noelle and Jack. She delighted in her role as a grandmother, a role she was born to play. Though Janice's time with Jack and Noelle was shorter than any of us would have wanted for her, the love she gave them was enough to see them both through several lifetimes.

We continue to see Janice everywhere: in our gardens, our recipes, our music; in the paintings that hang on our walls; in the innumerable things she mended, knitted and sewed; in the way we love and comfort each other; in the way we persevere; and of course in all our happiness. So while we are bereft today, we know we are not entirely at sea. She will blossom in our sails every dreamed and waking hour.

Janice’s last wish was for a direct cremation with an overabundance of flowers. She was clear that there should be no visitation or funeral. She did not believe in such things and would much rather have you remember her in your own way without dramaturgy or ritual, perhaps over a piping hot cup of tea or, better yet, a glass of champagne.
