In memory of

Janice Mitcheson Gower

June 20, 1956 -  April 11, 2023

On April 11th 2023, Janice Mitcheson Gower passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born on June 20th, 1956 in Tennessee (USA) to Joan Mitcheson Gower and Forest Ernest Gower, Janice spent part of her childhood in Montreal before relocating to Toronto. Janice attended Somerled Elementary and Monklands High School in Toronto before returning to Montreal to attend school to pursue a secretarial career. Janice was employed for most of her professional years by Fasken Law firm, only recently retiring after several decades. An avid enthusiast of experiencing different cultures, Janice’s love for archaeology and travel led her to explore some of the most beautiful regions in the world including much of South America, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Moracco and France. Her most recent adventure was to Panama, where she enjoyed connecting with her honorary grandchildren, Mia and Marcos, during daily walks on the beach.

Janice is survived by her favourite travel companion and longtime partner Marcos Benadibas, brother Geoffrey Gower (Alla), brother in law Kevin Estey, and nieces Laura Estey and Keely Gower. We pray for her eternal peace resting with mother Joan Mitcheson Gower (2018), aunt Irene Mitcheson (2020) and sister Leslye Leigh Gower (2021).

Janice was a warm, wonderful soul who looked for the good in everyone who crossed her path. Always ready with an understanding ear, a kind word, and a heartfelt embrace, she easily made lifelong friends and adopted family everywhere she went. Our own family would like to extend our gratitude to all of her friends and extended family for reaching out during this time and offer our condolences for your great loss as well as our own.
