In memory of

Janet Nisbet Durand

August 25, 1933 -  June 27, 2024

Janet Nisbet Durand was born Janet Ramsbottom on August 25th, 1933 in Toronto, Ontario to parents Elizabeth Boyd and Alexander Ramsbottom.

During her childhood, she attended Park School and Eastern Commerce. She had an exuberant personality and made friends easily with her classmates. Her magnetic personality and kindness carried throughout her life. She met her lifelong soulmate John George Durand at 8 years of age. They married July 27th, 1957 and welcomed 2 daughters, Christine Elizabeth and Kimberly Diane.

Janet began her career at age 16, working as an executive secretary at Border Brokers, she continued there for 14 years. At age 30, Janet began working at Calladine and Baldry Travel Agency. This is where the fun began and her love for travel was born. Janet and her family travelled extensively throughout her life. Janet loved going on cruises and logged over 30 voyages to many destinations. During retirement, Janet and John were snowbirds for 10 years. They had a beautiful home in Fort Myers Florida. In her latter years, Janet fulfilled her love of music through line dancing, meeting delightful people, who became life long friends. Janet loved a good time and enjoyed many casino weekends away with Kimberly and her (late) husband Doug. Janet passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook hospital on June 27th, to the welcome arms of her loved ones. She is survived by her daughters, Christine and Kimberly, Son in law Robert, and God Son, Brett Kocijian.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 4th at Pine Hills Cemetary, 625 Birchmount Road.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The funeral will commence at 1:00 p.m. with the Reception to follow.

Janet Hawkes (First cousin)

Janet will be missed. She was always the life and soul of the party. We spent .many years together travelling, as we were with US Airforce, Janet and John visited us in all the places we were stationed. I know you are with John now, whom I loved dearly. God speed my cousin.

I have thought of Janet often throughout the years. She was such a good friend to my mom. I am grateful for that. My mom will be so very happy to reconnect. I was looking forward to seeing her this summer and I'm saddened by this news. I am fortunate to have known her and have good memories. Janet, you are line dancing with angels now...and you are on the best cruise ever...a view like no other....and surrounded by friends and family. Wishing peace and beautiful memories to her family and friends.

Because my mom, Joan Chapman, was good friends with Janet for so many years, I have heard much about Janet's adventures and such, and of course, about her love of collecting teapots. It was clear to me that she had a great life and enjoyed it with great friends. I am glad I had the pleasure of finally meeting her at one of their monthly luncheons.
My condolences to her family.

I was privileged to have had such an amazing friend. We had so many wonderful experiences together. Thoughts and prayers for Christine and Kim as they go forward. What a fun time Janet had during her lifetime.
Rest in peace my friend. Love, Helen
