In memory of

Jane Northey Mackinnon

April 21, 1928 -  May 19, 2022

Jane died peacefully in her sleep at The Claremont Retirement Residence on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at the age of 94.

She will be deeply missed by her daughter Janet (Wendy), son David, sister Sally Skinner, and niece and nephews, Sara (Mark), Peter (Meredith) and Tim. While Jane never had grandchildren, she did adore all 6 of her granddogs and was always excited to welcome a new pup into the family.

Mum loved people and collected friends throughout her life. Whether playmates from her early years growing up in Moore Park, fellow classmates at Havergal College, volunteers with the Junior League or Sunnybrook Hospital, neighbours in Lawrence Park, or caregivers at the Claremont, she considered them all her friends.

Mum’s life was really devoted to her family, and she was the consummate caregiver. After raising us, she nursed our dear Dad and love of her life, Ronald, at home for over 4 years before being widowed at the age of 63. After Dad died, she had the time to enjoy her golf at The Toronto Golf Club and bridge at the Badminton and Racquet Club, and she explored the world with her various travel buddies including sister, Sally. During this period of her life, Mum also ensured that her own aging mother, Helen Northey, was always well cared for. Sunday night dinners and trips to the cottage were maintained for as many years as possible.

Mum’s friendships also spanned the generations. As we grew into adulthood, our friends were also her friends. At the Claremont, prior to Covid-19, she enjoyed her new relationships with other residents, and since, her caregivers have been her most cherished of friends. Mum enjoyed meaningful conversations with all, and they always felt her interest in them.

According to Mum’s wishes, a private interment has taken place. If desired, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
