In memory of

James William Francis Clynick

James William Francis CLYNICK
April 7, 1935 - June 1, 2025

Jim was a gentle, patient, hard-working and caring man – a true gentleman in all respects, always lending a hand to whomever needed his help. He always insisted on helping me with the household chores except diaper changing – that was not his favorite.
Jim was born in Toronto in 1935 and at age 7, he and his brother, Arthur, went into the care of his grandparents. Unfortunately, his sisters, Joan and Mary went into foster care. He started working at 16 and retired from Nelson Publishing at 65 as a warehouseman. During his working years he took on various jobs including at Doubleday, another publishing company.
Jim and I met in 1971 at the Maple Ballroom – he was a terrific dancing partner. In 1973 we married and took up residence at our present address with my two boys, Christopher and Raymond. A few years later we welcomed Stephen and Carrie. He was a wonderful father and a loving grandfather.
In 1993 Jim suggested we do some travelling. Over the years this resulted in our visiting 22 countries in Europe, Russia, 2 in Africa, 11 Caribbean islands, 14 U.S.A. states and 3 cruises. We did all the tours that were available and have many stories to tell about our escapades.
Jim’s undying passion was singing. He had a rich and robust baritone voice and loved singing in the many choirs he joined, particularly East York Choir and West Scarborough Community Choir where he sang many solos. These choirs would go to old age residences to sing. Their singing must have been magnificent because some of the residents fell asleep. He also sang beautifully at 2 weddings and 3 funerals.
His other passion was sports. He was an avid fan of the Toronto Argos and was lucky to see them win the Grey Cup with his daughter in 2012. He also faithfully followed the Toronto Maple Leafs and was happy to see them win the Stanley Cup in 1967, hoping that he was around for their next win. Disappointment came to everyone.
Jim was always a relatively healthy man but in his 91st year, pulmonary fibrosis took him away from his family and many friends who knew and loved him. We will all miss him deeply – he was one in a million and I know for sure that he is singing with the angels in heaven.
… his loving wife, Irene

I must mention here that I would not have survived the funeral arrangements without Chris, Stephen and Carrie.

Flowers are appreciated, or in lieu of flowers, donations in James’ memory to the Canadian Lung Association are welcomed.

In the 80's, I was over at his house often, visiting his son.
Stephen and I were in elementary school at the time. Jim was always so welcoming and friendly, offering drinks and food when I arrived and then leaving us kids to hang out and play video games.
He was a kind soul, and left a lasting impression on me as someone I try to emulate as a father now.
I love that he was able to live such a long and happy life!
May he rest in peace.

My dear friend of many years. A true friend, a gentleman, a sweet smile and a wonderful voice. May you sing with the angels. You will truly be missed.

Aaaaah Jim – what can I say about you? You are the love of Irene’s life and thank goodness you are around since you keep her rooted! You, Irene, me and Armand shared so many fun-filled summer BBQs in your backyard. With my and Armand’s discriminating palate, you always made sure that there is something for us to eat in the BBQ.

Our trip to the East Coast with Irene was a blast! We were the noisiest trio in the group that our photos were even used in the company’s website with Jim, ear to ear smile, wearing a ginger colour wig attached to a Tam o’Shanter cap.

You always made sure to drive me to the nearest subway whenever my visit to Irene turned to late evening chat (with Irene commenting in the background: “Do you have to drive Emilia to the subway? Why don't we let her walk!”); but of course, Irene will also join in the car as both of you drive me to the station.

I will miss your smile, Jim. I am so very grateful that you have lived such a long, fulfilling and happy life and that you have left us with so many fond memories to reminisce.
