In memory of

Dr. James Tan

October 3, 1981 -  October 26, 2019

It is with heartfelt sorrow that the family of Dr. James Tan announces his passing from colon cancer on Saturday, October 26, 2019, at the age of 38 years. James will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Vicky, his daughter, Madeline, parents, Chin Kien and Imelda, and sister, Monica. James will also live on through his in-laws, Frank and Anita (d. 2018), sister-in-laws, Lillian (Mark) Wang and Winny (Jaanan) Koivukoski, his niece, Bryn, and nephews, Michael and Tony.

A native of Toronto, James was born on October 3, 1981. He attended St. Bonaventure Catholic Elementary School and Upper Canada College. James completed a Bachelor of Health Sciences and Doctor of Medicine from McMaster University. He was also a graduate of the Family Medicine Residency Program in 2009, and completed a fellowship in Emergency Medicine in 2010 both at the University of Toronto.

Not only was James a superb Emergency Medicine physician at Trillium Health Partners (Credit Valley Hospital site), he was an outstanding and passionate teacher, a wonderful colleague, and a loyal friend. His family, extended family, friends, and colleagues will remain grateful for how he has enriched their lives with his love and dedication.

James had an enormous impact by making the world a better, happier, and more beautiful place. He will be missed cheering for the Toronto Maple Leafs, racing cars, skiing, and travelling the world.

James was an inspiring and incredible human being. He was calm, cool, and compassionate in situations where others would crumble. His smile lit up the room and will never be forgotten. Vicky, I’m so sorry for your loss. You were amazingly strong and supportive in the toughest and most unfair circumstances. I admire you immensely and know that James will live on through you and Madeline.
James made a huge impact on so many lives and because of that, he will never be forgotten.

Don’t think of him as gone away...his journey’s just begun, life holds so many facets this earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting from the sorrows and the tears in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing that we could know today how nothing but our sadness can really pass away.
And think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched…for nothing loved is ever lost and he was loved so much.
To Vicky and family, my deepest heartfelt sympathies, I pray that you find the courage, strength and endurance to walk this very difficult path in your lives. He will forever be with you! Rest in sweet peace James. God bless!
