In memory of

James Richard Samson

March 29, 1938 -  September 28, 2023

James Richard Samson, born March 29, 1938 in Toronto, passed away on September 28, 2023 at the age of 85 after a long battle with dementia. He was a dedicated brother to Janet (predeceased), father to James (Juanita) and David (Karen), grandfather to Emma and James, and devoted friend to many.
“Jim” met his beautiful wife-to-be Phyllis when they were just teenagers shortly after she arrived from Ireland to settle in Canada with her family. When they were in their early twenties, the loving parents moved to Bramalea before the boys had started school. Being young parents had its advantages as Jim and Phyllis were empty nesters by the time they were in their forties. They took physical fitness very seriously. In fact, Jim made the front page of the local newspaper with a photo of him out for his daily run in the snow with his cherished husky named Spirit. She was one of three lucky dogs who shared their home.
Jim spent many years as a proud captain for the Brampton fire department. Following his retirement from the fire department, he continued to serve the community working in the courtroom. Judges and lawyers would request that Jim be assigned to their cases because of his unique personality and character, where he had the ability to lighten the situation with his humor and positive demeanor.
Jim and Phyllis enjoyed their lives together to the fullest - travelling the world, taking in theatre and live shows, and playing golf with their close group of friends as often as they could. This included snow bird trips to Florida for several years. Jim lost his beloved Phyllis after 55 wonderful years together. Jim or “Grampa” will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him, including his grandchildren Emma and James who fondly remember a playful and loving gentleman. We will continue to cherish the memories.
