In memory of

曾慶慈 James Hung Tang

August 20, 1931 -  October 26, 2022

With profound sorrow, we mourn the passing of James H. T. Tang on October 26, 2022 at the age of 91 after suffering a stroke a month earlier.

James was born in Vietnam on August 20, 1931. He was the eldest of seven siblings of a very closed-knit family. James did not have the opportunity for higher education and started working at the age of 18 years old to help support his 6 younger siblings.

To create a better future for his children, James sacrificed his 30-year career at a renown bank and immigrated to Canada from Taiwan in 1980 with his family. He traded in his pens and suits for knives and aprons, and became a chef for years until he retired in his 60s.

He was a devoted father and a dedicated family man who always put his family first. During his tenure as a chef, he worked 12 hours a day and 6 days a week at multiple shifts and restaurants but never complained of the long hours and hard work. In addition, he took great care of his family; always cooking for his family, managing home finances, as well as maintaining the house.

James was a simple and loving person who loved to cook delicious food of various cultures and expressed his love to family and friends/neighbors through food. James also loved working out, sports, karaoke, and to spoil his grandchildren.

James is survived by his wife of 61 years, Hellen, his children, Peter, William, and Jin, his grandchildren, Ethan, Allison, and Matteo, his sister, Hieu Oanh, his brothers Hung Ren, Larry and Alex as well as many nieces and nephews. James is loved by all and will be missed dearly. The following portion of the lyrics from the song” You’ll be in my heart” best depicts our feelings for him:

Cause you'll be in my heart
Yes, you'll be in my heart
From this day on
Now and forever more
You'll be in my heart
No matter what they say
You'll be here in my heart

There will be a visitation (9:30 am to 10 am) and a memorial service (10 am to 11 am) planned on November 3, 2022 followed by a cremation immediately after. The service will be held at the Meadowvale Funeral Home at 7732 Mavis Rd, Brampton, ON.

In lieu of flowers, online donations can be made in James’ memory to either the Trillium Health Partners Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Dear Great Aunty and Families,

We are very sad to see Great Uncle James go, but we know he is in a better and more peaceful place now. He was a great man will be remembered dearly by many. Moreland still remembers the delicious foods he made when he visited when he was young and how welcoming he was. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

My favourite pass time with our father was singing Karaoke. He loved to sing and performed in senior homes even though he was one himself! LOL...He refused to be "old' at the age of 91 and had a strong fighting spirit up to the very last moment of his life.

He sang many oldies, duets with Mom and myself. His performances can be seen in the media section of this site. Dad was a great singer! :)
