It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing the peaceful passing of James Herbert Wong on August 24, 2024, at the age of 91 years old, after a short hospital stay due to complications from his treatment of prostate cancer.
He was born on April 19, 1933, in Brantford, Ontario. He moved to Toronto with his family before he was the age of ten, where he resided for his entire life. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mae, his daughters Debs (Russell) and Jennifer, his sons Michael and Anthony, his grand-daughter Amanda, his sister Helen (late Edward) and numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents Henry and Nellie Wong, brothers Fred (Barbara) and Doug (late Joan).
James was an active outdoorsman, who enjoyed playing golf, tennis, skiing, sailing, hunting, and fishing which he continued into his later years. His pride and joy was an ultra modern cottage built in the early 1970’s in Muskoka, Ontario. He had a successful career as a wholesaler (Sincere Distributors) and in commercial building management. He was always there for his family, supporting all their endeavours and providing them with opportunities to learn music, participate in sports such as swimming, skiing, tennis, golf, martial arts, and many other activities. Michael will always remember the long walks and discussions he had with Dad.
The family thanks the staff in the C wing and in the Palliative Care Unit at Sunnybrook Hospital for their kindness and care during James' final days.
Dad, we will always be on a Sunday drive with you and waiting for you to yell “bingo”. And don’t forget the butter buns.
At James’ request, the family had a private burial service on August 31, 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations to Sunnybrook Hospital would be appreciated.
