James Grant Easson
November 9, 1941 -
March 25, 2024
Easson, James Grant (Jim), November 9, 1941-March 25, 2024. Jim passed away peacefully in the early hours of Monday, March 25th, at the age of 82 in Fergus, Ontario. He will be dearly missed by his devoted wife, Diane, and remembered fondly by his family and friends.
Jim is survived by his daughters Angela (Martin), Julie (Tony), and Allison, as well as stepchildren Rob (Sarah), June (Tyler), and Paul (Julie). He is also remembered by his brother Roger (Tanja), sisters-in-law Eleanor and Lorna, grandchildren Natalie (Lance), Effie (Antonia), Heather (Aden), Cameron, Kate, Michael, Ellie, Jack, and Charlie, and nieces and nephews Tom (Alan), Val (Rob), Alexander, Elizabeth, Chelsea (Tyler), and Christie (Jimmy). Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen, his parents Mary and Sandy Easson, and brothers-in-law Lloyd, Tony, Chuck, Don, and Frank.
Born in the Shetland Islands where his father was stationed with the RAF, Jim spent his early years in Scotland and England before immigrating to Canada. After completing high school, he proudly served in the Canadian Navy and later joined the Renfrew/Lanark Militia. In Ottawa, he began his 27-year tenure with IBM and welcomed his first two daughters with his first wife, Helen. The family later moved to Newfoundland, where their third daughter, Allison, was born, before settling in Pickering, Ontario.
In 2007, Jim married Diane, with whom he shared many cherished moments in Ajax, Fenwick, and Fergus. They enjoyed ballroom dancing, square dancing, traveling, winemaking, and watching baseball and curling together. An avid curler, Jim served as the Past President and reporter at Annandale Curling Club. He had a passion for garage sales, antique shopping, flea markets, collecting coins and pins, reading, swimming (especially indulging in lots of cannonballs!), and attending Curling Briers. He was known for his meticulous lists and plans and always made a point to acknowledge birthdays, never forgetting to wish someone cheers.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Wellington Terrace for their compassionate care of Jim. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Make-A-Wish® Foundation of Canada (https://makeawish.ca/) or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. Jim's warmth, humour, and kindness will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Cheers Dad/Jim, we will miss you.
A private service will be planned to celebrate Jim’s life.
