In memory of

James Glynn

September 22, 2024

With inexpressible grief, we mark the death of James Patrick Glynn, 22 Sept 2024.

Jim is survived by his siblings: Joan, Edward, Mai, Rita, Patrick, Desmond, Joseph and Noeleen. And predeceased by his spouse Nancy Glynn (2017). His parents were James and Mary Glynn.

Jim was born in Dublin, Ireland September 18th 1937. Whilst attending a boys summer camp in Wales in 1954, Jim, in his own words, “surrendered his heart and life to the Lord Jesus”. That conversion marked a decisive turning point in Jim’s youth. For the remainder of his life Jim remained a devoted Christian and at the time of his death he served as an elder in Grace Presbyterian Church.

In 1957, several years after his first transformative conversion, Jim experienced his second: his emigration to Canada, to be followed soon afterwards by the rest of the Glynn family. The move to Canada opened opportunities for personal development previously unavailable. Jim attended George Brown College in the later 1960s in its Child and Youth Worker program and upon graduation was invited to teach in the program. This appointment was followed by a supervisory position in the Catholic Children’s Aid Society and afterwards a position with Metro CAS. Work in child care and treatment Jim considered “one of his most privileged challenges.”
Jim was an accomplished athlete. Verses from Corinthians 9:25-27 fit him well: "…run in such a way that you might win and box in such a way as not beating the air.” Jim was a marathon runner who completed some of the most prestigious marathons in Canada and the US. He was also, in his Irish youth, a championship boxer.

Family and friends will remember Jim for the many attributes and characteristics that marked Jim as a man of patience, of peacefulness, of friendship, of righteousness, and perhaps most of all, social compassion.

In lieu of flowers, tokens of remembrance and acknowledgement of a life fully lived may be made to: Children’s Summer Ministry, Grace Presbyterian Church, West Hill, Ontario. Cheques can be made out to "Grace Presbyterian Church," and mailed to Grace Church, 447 Port Union Rd, Scarborough, Ontario, M1C 2L6.

A visitation and funeral service will be held at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre on September 28, 2024, with a burial to follow. See below for more details. For a detailed map of the cemetery, click 'media' --> 'documents'

Jim, though humble in heart and stature, was a giant of a man! He had deep faith, compassion and humour in equal measure. His loving impact on the lives of others will be felt for years to come.
Jim will be remembered for his wonderful one-liners’ made all the more hilarious by his delightful Irish brogue. Well done good and faithful servant.

Noeleen and Glynn family,
My sincere condolences, I know that Jimmy must be such a huge loss to you, his family. His golfing friends will surely miss his unfailing self deprecating humour and cheerful outlook. On a personal note, he had a special place in my life and I will remember fondly the many conversations and good times together.

Jim - we are so sad that you are gone. We will miss you tremendously. We have such great memories of you and all the stories you told us. My favourite are the ones when you took the TTC places! They were so funny and we truly loved sharing those moments with you. We were so privileged to have a neighbour like you and being able to help you with your house (that was mostly Michael!) and being invited for one of your winter gatherings - that was the first time I tried sherry! I remember how happy you were during that moment. We'll never forget the love you had for our dog Julius and how much love he had for you. We hope you see each other in heaven. We know you have already reunited with you love Nancy and that gives us peace during this hard time. We will miss seeing you sitting in your driveway and waving to you during our walks. You will always be an honorary resident of Plover. Rest in peace Jim. PS - don't worry, we will not move into a condo!
