In memory of

Jacqueline Gauthier

December 25, 1930 -  August 12, 2020

Jacqueline Gauthier (nee Houel)

It is with heavy hearts we share the news of the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother on Wednesday, August 12, 2020. Born in Reims France on December 25, 1930, Jacqueline emigrated to Canada as young woman, where she met Gabriel and to whom she was a devoted wife for over 63 years.

Together they had 6 children: Laurent (late 2000) (Holly), Gilles (late 2003), Monique, Maurice (Beverly), Jacques and Rose Marie (late 1972). Jacqueline was the doting grandmother to Jason, Christopher (late 2019), Gizelle, Rachel and Jazmin, as well as being blessed with 3 adored great grandchildren: Marley, Lincoln and Elliot.

She also leaves behind her last surviving sibling, Janine Houel and extended family in France, family in Quebec and her many friends.

Jacqueline loved the company of others and was happiest when surrounded by those she cared about; she loved cooking, music and parties. Her amazing potato croquettes are lost with her passing. She was always dressed well for every occasion and made sure Gabriel was well pressed whether he liked it or not. They were quite a team and he will be lost without her fussing over him. Jacqueline was a devoted honorary Nanny to the 4 Dupont boys who she loved, as well as a caring foster parent to many children who were made welcome in her home.

Many thanks to the 3rd floor staff at Bendale Acres for their care, kindness and support over the past 4 years.

There will be a mass on Saturday August 29, 2020 at 10:00 am. At St. Rose of Lima Parish, 3216 Lawrence Avenue East, Scarborough. Due to COVID, a celebration of life will be held at a further date and social distancing will be in place. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Alzheimer Society.

I am heartbroken for all of you right now. Your Mum was such a life force; she commanded every room she set foot in: "I'm a strong woman", she often said and it was the truth.
For me personally, she was much more than my former mother in law. Over the almost 40 years I knew her, she made me feel welcomed and loved and continued to consider me as part of her family. She loved her grand daughter, my daughter Rachel, dearly, and adored Elliot, Rachel's daughter and her great grand daughter, referred to as "la poupon". We are discovering daily that "la poupon" possesses an iron will, perhaps inherited from her.
She was also extremely kind to my youngest daughter Madeline, and always made a great fuss of her when we came to visit.
I feel very fortunate to have known her and will miss her very much.
With much love,
Holly
