Jacqueline Althea Patricia Chatham, of Brampton, Ontario, Canada, transitioned into glory at 64 years of age on Tuesday September 24, 2024 after a brief illness at McNally House Hospice in Grimsby Ontario.
Jackie was born on September 22, 1960 to Christopher Chatham (now deceased) and Ida Chatham.
Jackie was born on the beautiful Island of Antigua, land of 365 white sandy beaches. She was the 9th child for her parents. In her early years she attended the Ottos Primary School at almost 4 years old. According to her mother she could read very well at that age, so they registered her to attend School. She was excited and learned her lessons throughout the different grades and was always at the top of the class. The teachers realized and recognized that she had the ability to articulate well, and they encouraged her mother (Ida) to send her to a higher Institution of learning.
Her mom did just that. Jackie took the exam for Christ the King High School (only the elite and persons who attended the Catholic Church could attend in those days). Jackie passed with flying colors. She achieved the highest score amongst those who took the exam that day. And just like that she was off to Christ the King High School. While there she excelled and always came first or second in her class. She was bright, smart, witty and knew so much. She attended Christ the King High School for several years. Her brother, Delvin Chatham was the Principal of the Seventh Day Adventist School, so with the advice of the brother, her mom sent her to the Adventist School. She also excelled there. She took GCE subjects including French and passed all her subjects.
Jackie could speak French very well and she was involved in French exchange programs with other students from Guadeloupe.
After graduation from High School she obtained employment at ZDK radio in Antigua as a News Anchor. That girl could read. She liked journalism and editing news or current affairs. She was good at what she did. She worked for the Radio Station for about one year, after which she migrated to Canada.
Jackie was married to Frank Allen in August of 1982. That marriage produced three beautiful children, Alayna, Kristen and Shellica and lasted for fifteen (15) years. She was a loving and devoted mother to her children and grand-children.
After migrating to Canada she obtained employment with CIBC in Toronto for over twenty (20) years. She was very good at her job, and her co-workers would often times go to her for advice. Her position afforded her the opportunity to liaise with other corporate affiliates throughout Canada, and in the process she made very good friends with a few and maintained those friendships until her death.
After her retirement with the bank, she decided to venture into a new profession altogether (Healthcare). She applied and was accepted into Sheridan College of Applied Arts and Technology. Jackie once again excelled in her studies and graduated with honors. That was a big achievement for her.
Jackie was employed by Able Living for a number of years as a PSW where she gave of herself. She was involved in the day to day operations and assisted clients with their needs. She did her job exceptionally well, day in and day out without calling in sick; she did it selflessly without complains and murmur. She was a team leader and assisted others in any way she could to make the work easier and lighter.
Jackie was an active member of the Bramalea Free Methodist Church community for many many years. She was also a member of the Ebenezer Methodist Church in Antigua. She was involved in the youth organization of the Church where she displayed her talent in plays, skits, drama and singing. Jackie accepted the Lord in her later years and continued to worship and praise him during her illness. She was a strong woman who endured a lot, however that never deterred her from worshipping her Lord and Master.
Jackie is survived by her mother, Ida; her three children; Alayna, Kristen and Shellica. Her sons-in-law; Camarni, Steve and Kevin. Her grand-children whom she adored and loved so much; Tatianna, Lincoln and Xave.
She is also survived by her brothers: Randolph, Delvin, Michael, Patmore, Jerry, Kenroy and Sean. Her sisters: Agnes, Emily, Deana (Claudia) and Carlene. Her brother-in-laws: Eustace and Noel and sister-in-laws: Baverly, Annette, and Eugenia.
She will be missed by her dear nieces, grand nieces, nephews, grand nephews, cousins, friends, extended family, and colleagues.
Jackie, rest in the arms of God. We love and will miss you dearly.
