In memory of

Jack Murray

November 14, 1927 -  April 5, 2023

We regretfully announce the passing of John “Jack” Cochrane Murray on April 5th, 2023, at the age of 95, in Pickering, Ontario.

Born in Montreal in 1927, Jack spent most of childhood in Ottawa with his parents and sister; where he also later met and married his beloved wife, Betty. Jack’s career in the insurance industry and a job opportunity in Toronto saw the couple relocate to Scarborough, where they would go on to raise their two children and make many lifelong friends. After their retirement, Jack and Betty enjoyed traveling and spending time with their grandchildren.

Jack was a great fan of professional sport and enjoyed watching baseball, football, and hockey. He was passionate about vocal music and was involved in several choirs over the years, enjoying both the joy of singing and the social activities that went with it. Jack always appreciated a good pun or witty joke and was just as pleased to tell one. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Jack is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Elizabeth “Betty” Conroy, his sister Elinor Samuel (Leslie) and his parents Samuel and Annie Murray. He is survived by his two children Debbie (Richard Lalonde) and Brian Murray, and his grandchildren Nicolle, Robert, Amanda, and Alexandra.

Our family is grateful to know that Jack is finally at peace.

Visitation will start at 1:00pm, followed by a public memorial service at 2:00pm on Thursday, May 11th, 2023, at the Pine Hills Cemetery and Funeral Centre in Scarborough, located at Birchmount Rd and St. Clair Ave E.

In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate donations to Parkinson Canada by calling

I met Jack during the last weeks of his life. I visited with him and he generously shared his life with me. A life, that centered around family. We would converse, listen to music and sing. I will always think of Jack when I hear Hallelujah. He sang his heart out while singing it. Jack had a wonderful sense of humour, that was always present. What an amazing gentleman he was and I am so very thankful to have been able to share some
