It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ted Griffenham at Michael Garron Hospital, with his beloved wife of 37 years, Maureen Griffenham, at his side.

Ted was known for the way in which he pursued his interests – with great passion. For example, he was a serious student of Tai Chi for many years and progressed to teaching this martial art form.

When he decided to take up juggling, he convinced his wife to join him at a circus arts school. They spent many years mastering the art of juggling together, passing increasingly difficult equipment between them, using increasingly complex skills.

Ted also taught himself fingerspelling so that he could communicate with a friend who was deaf/blind. He then moved on to master American Sign Language. This led to his career working as an interpreter for the deaf at George Brown College and the Toronto Board of Education. There he interpreted classes on a wide range of subjects, for students who were deaf.

He was also an on-stage interpreter. In particular, his family and friends will fondly remember his artistic interpretation of music, which he did alongside his wife, Maureen. This allowed those with hearing impairments to get a sense of the melodies and rhythms, along with the lyrics.

There will be a reception for family and friends to remember Ted, on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre, 375 Mount Pleasant Rd., Toronto, ON.
