In memory of

Ivo Brcic

June 16, 1935 -  April 28, 2022

Ivo Brčić, 86, died peacefully on April 28, 2022, with his family by his side.

Ivo loved adventures and his biggest adventure brought his young family from Croatia to Canada in November 1967, where he had a long successful career as an electronic engineer. Ivo’s biggest joy in life was his grandchildren and they, in turn, adored him and loved his crazy antics and hilarious stories. He will be sadly missed, and fondly remembered, by all who knew him.

Ivo is survived by his wife, Vesna, children, Branimir (Veronica) and Jasenka (Mark), as well as grandchildren, Aleksandar, Theo, Benjamin and Maya.

He was predeceased by his parents, Slavko and Mara Brčić, brother, Stanko Brčić and daughter-in-law, Brinley Evans.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to North York General Hospital.

I learned about Ivo many years ago, first through his brother Stanko (who was my classmate and good friend) and his mother - my school clinic doctor (both since our elementary school years), before we met in person after immigrating in 1967. Soon after, Ivo and Vesna became my patients. Ivo has impressed me as a very intelligent, conscientious and sincere, and as a patient very pleasant, loyal and cooperative person.
My wife and I are very saddened by the passing of Ivo and would like to extend our sympathy to Jasenka and Branimir. Our hearts go out to you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Papa Ivo will be greatly missed but his sparkling, intelligent eyes and kind smile will always be remembered.
I didn't get a chance to visit you before you were taken away from us, so I'll take this opportunity to say thank you. Thank you for always taking an interest in me and letting me feel like I was part of the family. I am sorry though for not knowing opera at the age of 11 in spite of my Italian origins. However, I am pretty sure you got over the surprise. Papa Ivo, you are definitely one of a kind and we will cherish your memories forever. God bless.

Papa Ivo was a man of few words but a man of great words.
When he spoke, you listened since you expect nothing short of astonishment!
His infectious smile, sense of humor, brilliance, kind heart, love for opera and art is what made my visits to The Brcic’s home as a teenager nothing short of an “education”. Papa Ivo is the reason I’ve a love for the opera, symphony, and art. I was first introduced to Monet at their home as a young teenager. I am grateful to you, Papa Ivo, for always making me feel welcomed and loved. I’ve spent 41 years knowing a wonderful selfless individual as yourself and you will truly be missed!
I will always treasure the memory of the few hours spent at the boulangerie during my last visit with yourself, Jasenka and Mark earlier this year. May you rest in peace and enjoy the journey to your next adventure!

My memories and thoughts of Ivo most often go to his role as a host at his numerous dinner parties for his family. Kids and adults in Ivo's pool had intergenerational great time , same for playing table tennis, and afterwards the obligatory čevapčići dinner. We will all miss 5 Greenyards and it's pleasures.
To an old "klasičar": "RESQUIESCAT IN PACE!"
