In memory of

Dr. Indranee Thurairajah

May 27, 1940 -  February 8, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Indranee Thurairajah, 27 May 1940 – 8 February 2025. Indranee was the wife of the late Mahendran Thurairajah, devoted mother to Lakshmi, and cherished sister to Swarna, Padma, Sounthy, Thevi and Latcho.

Indranee was born in Uduvil, Sri-Lanka. From early childhood, she proved to be a talented student at both Uduvil Girl’s College, and later St. John’s College, Jaffna, where she decided to pursue a career in medicine.

Following medical school at Peradeniya University, Indranee’s gift for guiding others through problems was reflected in her choice to become a psychiatrist. In Canada, she had a long and successful career at the Centre for Mental Health and Addiction until she retired in 2014.

Outside her professional life, her greatest passion was gardening, where her creativity shone through and her garden was featured in the Toronto Botanical Garden’s 2018 ‘Through the Garden Gate’ tour of resident gardens within the Toronto area.

Indranee also loved travelling extensively and once she retired made it a point to see the world with her husband with trips to Brazil, India and all across Europe. Cooking delicious food was also another passion of hers. She cooked for herself, but also cooked for others and entertained large groups often. She enjoyed surrounding herself with beautiful things, and spent time visiting galleries and collecting paintings, sculptures and artwork in and around Toronto but also all around the world.

She will always be remembered for her enduring strength, selflessness and loving support of her family.

All are welcome at the Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre for visitation on Thursday, February 13th, from 5:00 – 8:00 pm and the funeral service on Friday February 14th at 10am.

Indranee and Mahendran were the most dedicated parents. They were so invested in their daughter and always ensured to be a part of her celebrations and a supporter of Lakshmi during life's challenges.

I will miss so much sharing moments of celebration with them... In Toronto, in London, in France.... And can only promise to be part of the very large community of people who will no doubt continue to be a part of Lakshmi's and now Keith's celebrations and supporting them during challenges.

Rest in peace. You truly touched our lives and will live on, strongly, through Lakshmi who I KNOW holds all you ever taught and guided her on the highest of regard.

All my love.

Dearest Lakshi, I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. Your parents both played a vital part of my childhood in Toronto. Having an uncle and aunty to be part of our Toronto family was special. I remember so fondly the parties they use to hold and how I looked forward to going to your beautiful home. Your parents were such sweet people that impacted everyone they came in contact with and they will be missed. I hope you are managing well and even though I am far away my thoughts are with you. If you need me for anything I am here. 🙏🏾❤️
