Imants Elmārs Krūze
December 16, 1924 – January 3, 2019
Imants Elmārs Krūze passed away peacefully at the age of 94 at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. Survived by wife Māra Krūze, son Gary Krūze, wife Teresa Krūze and Astrīda Gemst-Krūze. Predeceased by sons Ronald Krūze (1998) and Martin Arnold Krūze (1997). He will be missed by his niece Inga Jēruma, and her children Ulrīka Plotniece, and Emīls Rūpais; Vineta, Aldis, Rovena and Adrija Andruskevici; Viesturs and Robert Vanags; Nick, Sandra, Constantine and Nicholas Mashin; Peter Mashin and Lilita Tannis.

Imants Krūze was born in Vidzeme, Latvia on December 16, 1924. After surviving WWII, he immigrated to Canada in 1947 with one suitcase and went on to achieve great success with his company DCS – Drapery Contract Services. His custom draperies graced some of the best windows across Canada including those in major corporate office buildings, celebrity and consumer homes through interior designers and many external affairs offices of governments around the world. His draperies were also sold through the retail, design department and catalogue divisions of Eaton’s Canada. In his later years, Imants loved going for long drives with his wife Māra, eating good meals and turning his backyard into a creative masterpiece.

The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Linda Vilde for her wonderful help and compassionate care giving over the past year along with Dr. Rachel Wortzman and the staff of the Palliative Care unit at Sunnybrook Hospital who made his life comfortable to the end.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at York Cemetery and Funeral Home, 160 Beecroft Rd, Toronto. Visitation will begin at 1p.m. followed by the Service at 2p.m. All are invited to attend as we Celebrate the Life of Imants Elmārs Krūze. He will be dearly missed by all.

To the Kruze Family
I am so very sorry for your loss. Your father was such an amazing man. I will never forget his phone calls. Imantz called me often just to make sure me and my family were doing well. He was there for my family when we lost my dad and again when we lost my mom. Now he will join all of our lost ones and he will be welcomed with open arms and many many smiles ❤

My blessings go out to the family at this difficult moment. I will say though that you were all blessed that he lived to the wonderful age of 94 and died peacefully.

If you would like to talk, I am always available.

Sincerely,
