In memory of

Ilmars Lejnieks

September 6, 1926 -  October 26, 2024

Ilmars Lejnieks September 6, 1926 – October 26, 2024

It is with a heavy heart that we share that Opa (Dad) passed away on October 26, 2024, in his 99th year. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 71 years, Veronica, daughter Cynthia, son Brian (Tracy), grandchildren Brandon (Rachel), Michael, Justin, Sarah and great granddaughter Harper. Opa is now reunited with his father, mother, brother and sister who predeceased him in his country of birth, Latvia. After serving in the Latvian Army, Opa eventually landed at Pier 21 in Halifax to begin his new life in Canada. Meeting his future bride on Centre Island at a gathering with friends, Opa and Oma’s journey together began. He was a very proud 72-year member of UA Local 46. We will cherish the many wonderful times that we shared together with Opa on vacations, at the family cottage on Buckhorn Lake and family celebrations, to name but a few. His warming smile and ever-present laugh will remain forever in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kristus Darzs Latvian Home. Rest in peace Opa.

To Ilmars family and friends, I was so sorry to hear of Ilmars passing…. I have fond memories of the times we worked together on a number of projects many years ago. Ilmar was a great tradesman when he worked at the plumbing and was highly respected by those of us who worked alongside him. He cared about others and was always thoughtful in how he offered his opinion… usually, with his big smile. We were fortunate to know him and now his legacy of a long life well lived will live on with family. Please accept my sincere condolences for your sad loss.
