Ibrahim M.A. ElAmin, of Scarborough, Ontario, passed away March 7, 2025 on his 90th birthday.
Ibrahim was born on March 7, 1935 to Mohammed Ali and Ashia Yusif El Zubi in Merowe, Sudan and grew up in Omdurman, Sudan where his family home is located.
After Ibrahim completed his education in Khartoum, Sudan, he went on to study Mathematics and Engineering in London, England.
After graduating with a Bachelors of Technology of Civil Engineering at Leeds University in Yorkshire England, he started his first job as a professor teaching mathematics at the Khartoum Polytechnic Institute, in the Sudan in the early 70s.
He began his Canadian engineering career in 1975 in North Bay, Ontario. Later he went on to accomplish a highly successful career as a Structural Engineer for 24 years at Sutcliffe Engineering in New Liskeard, Ontario. He accomplished a role as an innovator with the Ontario Building Industry, modifications of Ontario Building Code, and he gained notoriety with his bridge designs which were published in technical papers.
In 1958, he met the love of his life and beloved wife Diane (Kerry) in London, England. Ibrahim and Diane, went on to have four children, Ahmed, Layla, Nadia and Maha.
He lived with his wife and eldest two children in Bradford, Yorkshire, England and then in Khartoum, Sudan where he had his youngest two children before leaving with his family and immigrating to Canada in 1973. He became a Canadian in 1977 and was very proud to be Canadian, working hard for the care of his family.
In 2000, Ibrahim retired, moved with his wife to Bradford, Ontario and in 2017 they moved to Scarborough, Ontario to be closer to family.
Ibrahim spent his time, playing bridge with the Bridge Club, helping with the Seniors Club, fixing up his house and lawn, and some travelling in his retirement.
Ibrahim was predeceased by his mother and brothers, Amin Mohammed Ali, Salah Mohammed Ali (Kafissa), and Sadig Mohammed Ali and his father and half brothers and survived by his half sister.
He is survived by his wife Diane El Amin, his son Ahmed ElAmin (Karine Denis), his daughters Layla El Amin, Nadia Elamin, Maha Elamin (Tony DeLuca), and grandchildren Elliott Denis ElAmin and Nicholas Elamin DeLuca.
He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews in Omdurman and Khartoum, Sudan and in Ontario, Canada.
Ibrahim was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and had an enormous caring heart and loved to help anyone.
He was a member of the Kiwanis Club for over 20 years, and helped out with Easter Seals charity, and the Liberal Party.
He enjoyed playing bridge, dancing at social gatherings, and especially loved spending time with his family which was most important to him.
