Ian Michael "Mike" Whate

September 16, 1939 -  July 3, 2021

Passed away at the age of 81 after a three-year battle with multiple myeloma. Devoted husband for over 50 years to Marion (nee Pym) (1937-2017), brother to Eileen, Brian and Margaret, father to Steve (JoAnne), Rob (Jenn) and Rich (Lisa) and grandfather to Devon, Camryn, Jackson, Taylor, Evan, Rowan and Margaret. Born in England, Mike married and raised a family in Sarnia and Mississauga, Ontario, and retired to Waterloo, Ontario. Lovingly remembered as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, businessman, Christian counselor, author and jazz lover ("Charlie Parker, please, none of this modern stuff"). Memorial service is planned for the fall. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome please to Lutherwood Foundation, Waterloo Pentecostal Assembly or the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre.

I remember playing pool in Mississauga down in the basement and he would come downstairs and make everyone feel welcome and tried to tell some bad jokes. Lol. Was a nice man, Steve rich and Rob you are very lucky to have great parents like you did.

I had the pleasure of working with Mike in ministry work for years. We reconnected just before his move to a retirement community. We had lunch several times and caught up. He knew that I quilted and gave me some of his dear wife's supplies as he cleared out his home. I will forever be grateful for our friendship. Mike blessed me with his book written in recent times. Rest peacefully good and faithful servant.
