In memory of

Ian Courteany Chai

October 5, 1944 -  April 16, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ian Chai, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He left us on Wednesday April 16th at the age of 80 after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. Ian was surrounded by his loving family in his final moments when he passed peacefully in his sleep.

Ian is survived by his wife Eleanor, sons Austin and Sheldon and grandchildren Andrew, Kayla and Tia. He also leaves behind his sister June and brother David. Ian is preceded in death by his daughter Michelle and son Brian.

Ian was a retired watchmaker and jeweller who was an avid fisherman that cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, generosity, and unconditional love. He showed his love through his passion for cooking, his dedication to supporting his family, and in small moments of laugher at little jokes. Ian’s passing leaves behind an incredible void. He will be fondly remembered by family, friends and all those whose lives he touched.

Donations can be made in memory of Ian Chai to the Markham-Stouffville Hospital: Shakir Rehmatullah Cancer Centre or South Lake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket

This is a very difficult week to handle with the loss of dear uncle Ian.
He will be so missed. He always had such a sweet smile every time we saw each other and he always asked how we were doing and mostly how our kids were doing.
Now he is at peace and with Brian and Michelle and lovingly hugging them.
Our deepest sympathy to aunt Elenor, Austin and Sheldon and grand kids.
Until we see you again uncle Ian RIP.

Love
