In memory of

Huguette "Mary" Yvonne Smith

November 6, 1937 -  January 5, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mary, who passed away peacefully at the age of 87 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on November 6, 1937, Mary lived a life filled with love, strength, and devotion to her family. Mother of five children, one of whom, Kathleen (Kathie) preceded her in death. Her children Chris (Jeff), Doug (Mariane), Jim, and Diane—were the centre of her world, and she was a steadfast presence in their lives.

As a grandmother and great-grandmother, she was the heart of the family. She was Nanny to 16 grandchildren: Kristen, Alyssa (Billy), Jessica, MacKenzie (Steph), Dallyn (Kelly), Grant, Abbey (Quinn), Ethan, Aydan, Maddie (Ricky), Amelie, Sam, Nikki (Patrick), Luke, Connor (Merrin), and Jo. Her love also extended to her 8 great-grandchildren: Logan, Wyatt, Isla, Ewan, Ruby, Terrance, Autumn, and Damian. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth and unconditional love. Mary was incredibly proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved attending and supporting them in all their activities, always there with a cheering smile and a heart full of encouragement.

Her unwavering support for her family and her boundless love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will be remembered by all who knew her. She made sure each family member felt cherished, always offering her guidance, wisdom, and care.

Though her physical presence will be greatly missed, her spirit will live on in the memories of those who loved her. A memorial service to honor her life will be held on Thursday January 9, 2025, at Thornton Funeral Centre with Visitation from 1pm-2pm and Service at 2pm, with family and friends gathering to celebrate the remarkable life she led.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Canadian Cancer Society in her memory.

She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a multitude of extended family and friends whose lives she touched with her kindness, generosity, and love. She will be forever missed but never forgotten.

I loved Mary for her quiet, loyal presence and sweet smile. I haven't seen her in years, but I always saw her on Facebook. 🤓 My condolences to Chris and all her family - I know Mary will be sorely missed. 💜

I am so saddened to hear of your loss.

No matter how old she is, no matter how old you are, it’s always too early to lose your mom!
