In memory of

Hugh James Taylor

July 30, 1931 -  January 29, 2025

It is with great sadness we share the news of the death of Hugh James "Jim" Taylor.

Jim passed away on January 29th, 2025. He lived an amazing 93 years. He struggled with a bunch of ailments in the final years, but as he jokingly quipped quite often, "every dog has his day". Always causing a sigh from his wife Edith.

He is survived by his wife of 59 1/2 years, Edith, sons Hugh and Eric, daughter-in-law Brigitte, and grand-children Ethan and Liam.
Although Canadian born in St. Anne de Bellevue, Quebec, Jim was a Scotsman, and grew up in Dundee, Scotland during the 1930's and 40's. It was a tough upbringing during the WWII years. He also served two years in the RAF just post war and was very fond of those experiences.

He zig-zagged across the Atlantic via ship between Canada and Scotland several times, trying to figure out what he was going to do. Eventually becoming a tool-and-die maker. That career lead him to spending a couple years in Chicago applying his trade to building commercial aircrafts. Eventually planting permanent roots back in Canada in the GTA.

Jim then met the love of his life, Edith, which to the end, would have done anything for her. They had two sons, which he was immensely proud of and never shied away from saying it.

He pivoted careers in the 70's and became a superintendent/janitor. Or as he told the photographer taking our family photo in the 70's who thought the man in the suit was a businessman, "Nah, I slop floors". He didn't really care about material things or money that much. Maybe one reason for his longevity.

In his retired years, Jim and Edith's favourite pastime was hitting the casinos. He claimed to have had a "system". They played within their means and loved it.

Anyone that knew him, knew he was a 'joker' to his core. Or as Edith would say, "he never grew up". Whether it was placing a piece of fake dog poop somewhere, slipping a whoopie cushion under you, spraying sneezing powder or just telling a daily joke. He loved to be joyful and make others smile.

Hopefully they have an endless supply of stogies and a smoking room wherever your next journey takes you. You will be missed dearly, but never forgotten.

Rest in Peace Jim/Dad/Granddad.

A funeral will be held at The Simple Alternative Funeral Home located at 1535 S Gateway Rd, Mississauga, ON L4W 5G6 on Friday February 7th, 2025 with visitation between 10-11am. A brief Service will begin at 11am, followed by a Celebration of Life Reception with sandwiches, tea and coffee from 11:30-1pm. For family and friends that can not attend, we will record the service and place a link for viewing on this page shortly after the completion.

The family would rather people make donations in support of Alzheimer's Society of Canada or War Amps Canada, in lieu of sending flowers. Jim really was not a flower guy, except for the big sunflower he was proud of growing at home.

Uncle Jim, you will be missed. Our family now has a large hole in it, that will be filled with memories.

I have a lifetime of fond memories, most involving the best hugs, your smile, your endless stories (some of which resulted in an eye roll from Tante Edie) , and the ever present smell of your stogie.

Thinking of the whole Taylor family and sending our love to you all.
