It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Hou Fu Yu, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, on March 10, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on December 21, 1927, in Ningbo, China, Hou Fu Yu’s life was a testament to determination, resilience, and unwavering devotion to his family and faith.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
2 Timothy 4:7

Hou Fu Yu was known for his strength of character and steadfast loyalty to those he loved. He always put his family first, offering steady support and quiet strength to those who depended on him. Beneath his strong exterior, he had a playful and fun-loving spirit, finding joy in life’s simple pleasures. Whether enjoying a Diet Coke, playing cards with his grandchildren, or cheering on the Toronto Raptors, he cherished every moment that brought his family together.

In his later years, Hou Fu Yu made the life-changing decision to become a Christian. He often expressed gratitude for God’s protection and provision throughout his life. His family was blessed to witness his journey of faith, and we take comfort in knowing that he is now resting in the loving arms of our Saviour.

Hou Fu Yu will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 70 years, So Ting Yu; his four children, Ken, Angela (Laurence), Alice (Richard), and Bessie (Philip); his eight grandchildren, Karen, Carolyn, Rachel (Shaun), Nathan (Alice), Jillian (Stephen), Emma (David), Erin, and Maddie; and his three great-grandchildren, Max, Sam, and Callum—each of whom will carry his memory in their hearts. He was predeceased by his first wife Hong Songqin, his daughter-in-law Sharon and his grandson-in-law Michael.

A visitation will be held on March 22, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., followed by a celebration of life service at 2:00 p.m. at York Funeral Centre. If you are unable to join us in person, the service will be live-streamed and a link will be available at 1:50 p.m. on March 22.

May Hou Fu Yu rest in peace, secure in the knowledge that his faith has led him home, and with the hope that we will one day be reunited with him in heaven.
