合成於一九五二年六月十二日在香港出生，廣東省新會人，共有四姊一弟一妹，他排行第五。中學畢業後便在香港大東電報局工作 (電訊盈科的前身)。一九九三年移民到多倫多後，合成起初從事電子，資訊工作，在離世前是在 St. Paul Senior Persons Living Connected 服務。

合成與麗娟 Angela 在一九八零結婚，至今已有三十九年，育有兩女兒，祉倫 Freda 與祉霖 Dara。合成為人文靜，但喜愛參加各種的活動，工餘與同事參加 baking class 烘焙課程，學習烘焙各式糕餅， Freda 年幼時的生日蛋糕都是由他親手做的。合成也喜愛戶外活動，游泳，露營和風帆，他也熱愛園藝，在家的室外和室內都悉心栽種了很多不同的花卉植物。合成也是位 handyman, 家裏的各種維修保養，大小工程都能辦妥。

合成於 2000 年於黎明山華人浸信會受浸，成為神的兒女，在教會成長和學習，專心倚靠神。

在2014 年，合成患了舌癌和唾液腺癌，靠著神的恩典，在治療後康復良好。至今年六月初被証實患有腦癌，在患病期間，合成從不放棄對神的倚靠，雖然病情令他記憶漸失，但他也不忘禱告，求主帶領。在患病期間合成更深深感受到神的愛，家人，弟兄姊妹和親友的關心與照顧，每日都是活在愛中。

合成於十月十日在妻子，女兒，女婿和弟兄姊妹的陪伴下安息主懷。

Hop Shing was born in Hong Kong on June 12, 1952. His family was from the province of Guangdong, China. He was the fifth of seven children, with four older sisters, a younger brother, and a younger sister.

Upon graduating from high school, he worked at Pacific Century CyberWorks Limited – PCCW (formerly known as Cable & Wireless). After immigrating to Toronto in 1993, Hop Shing began his career in electronics, and later served at St. Paul Senior Persons Living Connected until his passing.

Hop Shing has been married to Angela for 39 years and have two daughters, Freda and Dara.

While he had a quiet personality, he enjoyed participating in various activities, such as attending baking classes with his colleagues. He learned to bake beautiful cakes and pastries, and created custom birthday cakes for Freda when she was young.

Hop Shing enjoyed outdoor activities such as swimming, camping and windsurfing. He especially loved gardening; all of the beautiful plants and vegetables around the house were planted & nurtured by him. Inside the house, he was a handyman. Many of the home repairs and renovation projects of all sizes were completed to perfection.

In year 2000, Hop Shing was baptized at Richmond Hill Chinese Baptist Church. He became a child of God, and grew spiritually and studied God’s Word faithfully.

In 2014, Hop Shing was diagnosed with tongue cancer and salivary gland cancer. But by the grace of God, he made a full recovery after his medical treatments. However in June this year, he was diagnosed with brain cancer. During his illness, Hop Shing never gave up on God's faithfulness. Even though the illness affected his memory, Hop Shing did not forget to pray and continued to seek the Lord for his leadership and guidance.

As his illness continued to progress, God’s love and goodness became increasingly clear. Hop Shing was surrounded by love everyday. His family, friends, and church family were all by his side, full of love and encouragement.

On October 10th, Hop Shing peacefully returned to his Heavenly Father, surrounded by his wife, daughters, son-in-law and his church family.
