It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of our loving father, devoted husband, cherished grandfather and great grandfather, Hong Doan at the age of 97. He passed away peacefully at the Palliative Care Unit in Markham Stouffville hospital. He was born on December 18th, 1925, in China. He lived a long and blessed life full of wonderful memories with his wife, Ghet-Lang and 6 children (Raymond, Dat, Ben, Ken, Winnie and Trang).
He spent the early years of his life in China before emigrating to Vietnam where he had started building his career/business and family. He then moved his family to Canada where he spent the remainder of his life.
He has gone through a great journey building a fulfilled life as he was a very smart and ambitious man, who worked hard through his charisma and charm. His integrity, diligence and unwavering commitment were qualities that earned the respect and admiration of those he knew.
His passions in life were his family, friends, Chinese music, food (specifically seafood), reading his newspapers, watching news, basketball and playing the weekly lottery. He was a loving grandfather whose eyes lit up in the presence of his grandchildren. His actions spoke louder than words ever could. Fond memories of such actions included his keenness to neatness and tidiness. Every weekend, we watched him meticulously sweeping with his trusty wicker broom, a simple act that spoke about his dedication to his home and family. He was a tea connoisseur who loved sharing tea with his family. Watching him carefully place each cup down for anybody that would partake, washing each one with a pot of ‘throw away’ tea before brewing a fresh pot to share. Every step of his process demonstrates his passion, attention to detail and caring nature. Most of all, we’ll fondly remember his unwavering commitment to picking up his loved ones from school, regardless of the reason; be it a headache, stomachache or even an imagined ailment. His quiet strength, love and kindness will forever be etched in our hearts.
Not only was he a loving family man but also a respected member of his community. His warm heart and willingness to lend a hand touched the lives of many. His generosity knew no bounds. Whether through acts of charity, community involvement or simply being a friend to those in need, he made the world a better place.
His departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on through the love he shared and the positive impact he had on so many lives. Though he may be physically gone, he will remain in our hearts, in the lives of his family and friends.
He will be greatly missed by his loving family of in-laws (Susana, Joanne, Kieu, Betty, Andrew and David), grandchildren (Karen (Mike), Michael (Leela), Sabrina, Ryan, Kevin, Kayla and Derek) and great grandchildren (Elyse, Naomi, Aiden and Evan).
On dad’s behalf, the family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and condolences. In addition, we’d like to thank Markham Stouffville Hospital and their staff for their care and attention during his stay.
In lieu of flowers, financial contributions can be made via contribution envelopes available at the service or donations directly to the PSP Society of Canada.
