Passed away peacefully on Monday, November 6, 2023 at Lakeridge Heights Oshawa after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s.

Born on February 16, 1930 in Kappelrodeck, Baden, Germany. Predeceased by her brother Otto and sister Klara, beloved wife of her late husband of 64 years Michael Schneider.

Cherished Mother to Brigitte (Walter), Oma to Michelle (Gus), Michael (Alex), Thomas (Stacey) and Ryan. Proud Uhr-Oma to Lily, Violet, Rose, Ava, Aria and George. Hilda will be sadly missed by her nieces and nephew in Germany, as well as nephew George (Lydia) Schneider and family in Canada. Also grieving are many friends and acquaintances she met during her 93 years.

Hilda came to Canada with her husband Michael and daughter Brigitte in 1952. They arrived in Halifax just before Christmas and took the long train ride to Toronto where they settled and lived out the rest of their lives. Hilda worked for the Timothy Eaton Company for 27 years and for her dedication was given a wonderful gift and party in her honour. After working for such a long time, she decided it was time to stay home and spoil her husband and concentrate on her grandchildren. Hilda was a wonderful cook and baker. She loved to sing and dance. She loved to garden and was very proud of her beautiful tulips in the spring and sunflowers in the fall and her blooming Cacti. But most of all she loved her family and looking after her grandchildren and later in life her great-grandchildren. There was nothing she would not do for her family. She had a happy outlook on life and enjoyed it to the fullest.

A special thank you to all the compassionate PSW’s at Lakeridge Heights Retirement Home and the nurses at Lakeridge Heights Oshawa supportive unit, you made Hilda so comfortable during her last days.
We are heart-broken that she has gone from us, but have so many happy memories which we will cherish forever. Goodbye dear Mom, Mother-in-law, Oma, Uhr-Oma, Aunt and friend. May you rest in peace.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery & Funeral Centre, 625 Birchmount Road, Scarborough, Ontario on Monday, November 13, visitation at 1 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service and reception to follow.
