Hilda Mary Love, age 96, passed away peacefully at her home, Amica Retirement Residence on November 30, 2017. Hilda was born in Laugheed, Alberta and was the only girl in a family of five brothers. She spent much of her youth at the paternal family farm, Ballagawne, in the Isle of Man. After returning to Canada, she married Walter Love and became a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She spent much of her life happily and selflessly caring for her husband, family and others. Her family and friends will remember her for her sweet, kind and generous nature.
Hilda will be sadly missed by her husband of 65 years, Walter, and by her daughters Dawne (Jim) and Cheryl (Doug). She will be lovingly remembered by her six grandchildren Patrick (Kristin), Kathryn (Andrew), Christopher, Scott, Charlotte (Mike) and Heather (Matt) as well as her two great grandchildren Jasper and Ellis.
Hilda enjoyed her many house plants and her garden, both of which flourished under her care. She was a wonderful baker and her grandchildren always looked forward to ‘grandma’s squares’. Hilda and Walter were ballroom dancers. They spent long hours at lessons and practicing at home. Their hard work was rewarded with many happy nights out with their fellow dancers, who were also their good friends.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the Community Care drivers who have taken Hilda to see Walter these past two years, and to the staff at Amica Retirement Residence who have always been so cheerful and caring.
Visitation will be held at Thornton Cemetery and Funeral Centre (1200 Thornton Rd. North, 905-579-6787) on Saturday, December 16, 2017 from 10:30-11:00am, service to follow in the Funeral Home Chapel.
The family requests that donations in memory of Hilda be made to a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers or gifts.
