In memory of

Henrique Da Silva

August 3, 1931 -  November 29, 2016

Henrique Da Silva passed away peacefully after a lengthy hospital stay on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 in Mississauga, Ontario

Henrique was born August 3, 1931 in Mouronho-Tabua, Portugal – the eldest son of Antonio Carvalho da Silva, a bakery owner in Lisbon, and Maria do Rosario Benido de Carvalho. Henrique learned all about baking from his father as a teenager along with his 2 younger brothers Jose and Eugenio.

In 1957, Henrique married the beautiful and lovely Maria do Carmo Lino dos Santos. Together they had 4 children. In partnership with his brothers, Henrique grew his father’s business to be one of the largest bread manufacturers in Lisbon, implementing highly advanced technical manufacturing improvements. He was involved in industrial legislation and product development and participated at a government level.

Following the Carnation Revolution in Portugal in 1974, the government confiscated all of Henrique's holdings. Together with Carmo he made the difficult decision to leave Portugal and emigrate to Canada. In Canada Henrique opened a new bakery business and enjoyed a successful business career for many years.

Henrique enjoyed all sports, especially soccer and basketball. He loved classical music, vocal jazz, big band and going to the theatre. He was always well dressed and loved to wear tailored suits. He appreciated great wine and good food – he enjoyed dessert most of all and, sometimes instead of the meal. He had a wonderful sense of humour and enjoyed gathering his loved ones together on all family occasions.

Henrique recently lost his beloved Carmo. During the past few years, he was her primary caregiver and together they supported each other in the last years of their lives.

Henrique is survived by his children – Pedro Silva, Isabel Ferreira, Margarida Reeves and Teresa Da Silva as well as grandchildren Steven, Stephanie, Jessica and David and great-grandchild Jonah.

He will be missed.
