Helena Rezucha, 81, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2025, in Toronto, Canada. Her passing was a beautiful surrender—gentle, sweet, and transcendent. She has crossed over, joining her parents, Helena Neveceralova and Frantisek Neveceral, and her grandson, Jeremy Kingswell.
Helena was born in Prague during World War II and grew up in the city, spending her summers running wild in the Czech countryside where her love of nature was fostered. Her early adulthood was spent as a Czech-Italian translator, which allowed her to travel at a time when most could not due to political restrictions. She was a free-spirited young woman surrounded by artists and dissidents during a time of political repression, embodying mischief and independence.
In 1980, Helena immigrated to Canada, where she put down roots and remained until her last days. Her joyful spirit brightened the lives of everyone around her. Those who knew her were touched by the tenderness of her open heart.
Helena was a talented painter, glass artist, and exceptional cook. These creative pursuits filled her days in her final years. She loved gardening, travelling, and was fluent in multiple languages. She was known for her culinary skills and love of nature and creativity.
She is survived by her daughters (her "little chickens") Miroslava Kingswell (Rick Cay) and Veronika Rezucha (Kurtis Sheldan), brother Jirka Neveceral (Alena Neveceral), grandchildren Christopher Kingswell and Penelope June Sheldan, and partner Adrian Oud.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
