In memory of

Helen Papas

March 29, 1943 -  September 24, 2022

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our beloved Mother, Baba, Sister and Aunt on September 24th, 2022 at the age of 79. Predeceased by her husband Louie, dearest Mother to Terry, and Mary (Chris), loving Baba to Roman (Kira), and Anthony, beloved Sister to Bill (Joan) and Ann, cherished Teta to Garry, Bill, Mike (Thelma), Christine and Jonathan.
Born in Xino Nero, Florina, Greece she married Louie in 1960 and came to Canada where they started a family and ran a business, the Patrician Grill. A hardworking woman who embraced and succeeded in overcoming the struggles of a new language and culture.
While raising her family and working long hours, she developed many talents. From sewing dresses to carpentry to plumbing, she was the first to pick up a hammer. She had many loves in her life, her family, friends, flowers and garden. Helen had unstoppable strength and drive, no task was too big for her to tackle.
One of her greatest joys in her life was raising and spending time with her grandchildren, Roman and Anthony.
The family wishes to thank her many relatives, friends and neighbours for their help and support over the years.
To our beautiful mother and baba, you will be deeply missed and will forever be in our hearts. We love you and thank you.

Helen became family to us. We lived beside each other and cared for each other. There is now an empty space next door but her legacy lives on through her beautiful landscaping. We were blessed with her presence for so many years and now feel the emptiness. Love to all of her family! XO

Helen was an inspiration to me. She was always hard working and strong. She managed so many hardships, and always, until she could no longer, with a smile and laugh, “what can I do? I have to keep going and keep working”. Her words that I will never forget. I will miss her very much.

I just started coming to the Patrician Grill over the last few weeks after staying at home (like the rest of the world) for the last two years. What a wonderful place, part of the heart and soul of that St. Lawrence neighbourhood. Terry is such a character, I love chatting with him, what a no-bullshit kind of guy. I don't remember Helen exactly but I've been going to the Patrician on and off for many years, I'm pretty sure I've run into her along the way. I sure hope so.

My deepest condolences to you Terry and your family, what a time this must be for everyone. Yesterday, a good friend told me something that I think we all know is true, but I think needs to be repeated - death is part of life. Life doesn't happen without death. We might feel like we hate that someone we love has passed but I don't think that really makes sense - it feels strange to even write this, but if I'm being honest I think we should embrace the passing of our loved ones. Because it's a necessary step in their journey, and ours. It make life and love possible.

All the best, Paul.
