In memory of

Helen Chau

February 28, 1935 -  April 25, 2021

Helen Chau passed away on Sunday April 25th at 1:35 am at the age of 86 after suffering from a lengthy illness. She was born in Canton, China. Her family later immigrated to Indonesia during the Chinese revolution while Helen, who was still of high school age, remained to complete her education at the local missionary school. It was there that she met her future husband, Tung Lok Chau.

She immigrated to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, married Tung Lok Chau and started a family. She had two daughters: Jeannette and Cindy.

Helen worked hard to establish herself in her new country and eventually became a nurse practitioner and worked at Toronto Western Hospital until her retirement at the age of 58. Tung Lok predeceased her in 1993. She enjoyed travelling and caring for her two grandchildren: Emily and Casey.

Later in life she stopped travelling due to chronic illnesses such as arthritis and other age related diseases and was largely housebound. She was able to stay in the comfort of her home due to the support she received from agencies such as VHA which sent PSWs daily to her home to take care of her. We thank these agencies for providing the support she needed to keep her comfortable and safe at home.

Jeannette and family, my deepest condolences to all of you on the passing of your mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. Clearly she lived a long and full life, loved others deeply and was loved in return. May you all derive comfort from that, even as you grieve.
