In memory of

Heiyoon La Park

February 6, 1951 -  April 25, 2023

It is with immense sadness that we share the passing of our precious and loving mom on April 25, 2023 at Baycrest Hospital.

Our mom was the epitome of the 9 fruits; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, goodness, self-control, and faithfulness.

She is survived by her two children, James & Jennifer (and partner Derrick), who treasured her more than anything in the world, as well as her husband, Chang.

Heiyoon was born in Seoul, Korea and immigrated to Toronto in her formative years, attending Jarvis Collegiate and graduating from the University of Toronto. Driven by her passion to nurture others, she pursued a fulsome career as a Montessori teacher in Halifax & Ottawa.

Our mom was a tender and giving soul, always looking to impart happiness and comfort to those she would meet in life. She also shared an affection for the cultural arts, weaving her enduring love for music, literature, painting & travel to shape her curiosity, perspectives and endeavours.

Indebted gratitude to the team at North York General Hospital & Baycrest Hospital, who gently cared for our mom this past year after surviving an at-home cardiac arrest in March 2022. Although this resulted in severe health complications, she would still muster the will to find moments to smile, blow air kisses and sing, even though her voice could no longer be heard.

Thank you mom for your lifelong sacrifices, and for giving your absolute everything this past year in the hospital. We can’t imagine how difficult it must have been, but we know you powered through for us with such grace, strength & courage.

Quality over quantity, as you would always say. Well in your final act you blessed us with both, extending your ever precious last chapter on this earth with unassailable fortitude. We cherished every moment, thankful at the start of each day to be given another day together with you.

Although our hearts ache like never before, it’s poignantly befitting that we celebrate our mom’s elegant life on Mother’s Day weekend. Hope you are in a beautiful place in heaven, and we will forever strive to live the 9 fruits that you endeared us with through your motherly love. May you rest in peace in God’s loving arms.

Your adoring kids,
James & Jennifer

To one of the most caring, kind and insightful people I’ve ever known. I will miss our phone calls - we never ran out of things to say to each other.

Heiyoon, you are forever in my heart, a dear friend and so beautiful in every way.

Jen- My sincere condolences to you and your brother as you go through the unthinkable. I am sending you my thoughts and strength during this difficult time. I see so many similarities to your mom both looks and how you describe her. May she rest in peace and guide you from above. Big Hugs.
