In memory of

Hazel Patricia Daubeny

August 22, 1935 -  December 30, 2024

Passed away peacefully on December 30, 2024, in her 90th year.

Beloved wife of the late James P. Daubeny (58 years), she will be deeply missed by her sons, Peter, Stephen, Geoffrey (Sandra), as well as her cherished grandchildren, Chris, Creggan, Evan, Wesley, Keith, Eric, and her great-grandson, Jack.

Hazel had a profound impact on everyone she met throughout her life. With over 20 years as a dedicated teacher in the Durham region, she inspired countless students. She played a pivotal role in founding the International Culinary Arts Competition, where she was honoured with the title of Honorary Chairman. Her early contributions to what has become Skills Canada were instrumental in shaping the future of culinary education. Some of her proudest moments came from witnessing her student apprentices mature into successful professionals, many of whom achieved international recognition.

A founding member of the Bay Ridges Kinnette Club, Hazel and James moved to the area from Nova Scotia in 1961 and quickly became an integral part of the community.
Hazel's greatest joy was the time spent with her husband. Together, they shared a passion for sailing, earning her Captain and Sea Navigators licenses. In their retirement they enjoyed seven wonderful years sailing the Atlantic coast from Pickering to the Florida Keys.

A heartfelt thank you for the compassionate care of the staff at Extendicare Retirement Home in Oshawa.

A visitation will be held at The Simple Alternative Funeral Centre, 1057 Brock Road in Pickering, on January 18th from 2 – 4 pm. There will be a Celebration of Life following the visitation. For those that wish to, donations can be made in Hazel’s name to Parkinson’s Canada (please click the 'Donations' button located at the top right). Condolences may be made by clicking the 'Guestbook' button (located at the top right panel).

I have known Hazel most of my life. She was a lovely lady. I always enjoyed her company as well as your dad Jim. I remeber visiting them on their sailboat in Florida many years ago. Condolences to the Daubeny family.
