In memory of

Harriet Foley

November 7, 1930 -  April 11, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of
Harriet Foley on April 11, 2023 at Lakeridge Gardens LTC home in Ajax, at
the age of 92, surrounded by her friends. Harriet will be missed by her
family: children - Adele (Iggy), Gerry, Lynn and Trish; sister, Adele and her
extended family; brother, Raymond (Joanne) and brother, Stephen (Shirley). Dearest
Grandma and Nana to: Jonathan, Jessica (Sebastian), Joshua, and
Gregory. Predeceased by her sister, Bessie and her two brothers, Jack and
Ronald. Forever in the hearts of her many dear friends, especially those
from Frazer Heights Co-operative and the members of Bayfair Baptist
Church. Will fondly be remembered by her many friends and staff of
Lakeridge Gardens LTC.

Harriet was born in Toronto to Lily (Waterworth) and Peter Bottaro.
Her mother was originally from England and her father was from Genoa,
Italy. As a young girl, Harriet attended Woodgreen United Church where
she was baptized and attended Sunday School.

Harriet met the love of her life at age 17, married two years later and
moved to the small community of Fairport Beach in Pickering. She raised
her four children as a stay-at-home Mom. Harriet became a member of
Dunfair Baptist Church, and was baptized in 1963 at Ajax Baptist Church.

At age 55, Harriet achieved her Diploma in Early Childhood
Education(ECE). Retired Daycare Teacher from Bayfair Daycare, Harriet
loved children! In the past, Harriet focussed on her artistic flair, took up oil
painting and enjoyed night school art classes. Her collection of elephants
was well-known and emphasized her love of animals.

Harriet was an avid reader, recently reading ten library books each
month. Her enjoyment of travel took her to many places in Ontario, British
Columbia, East Coast of Canada, Northwest Territories, USA and The Caribbean.

In her later years, Harriet enjoyed trips to the Toronto Zoo and for her
92nd birthday, she explored Ripley's Aquarium. Since Harriet became a
resident of Lakeridge Gardens, she had been active in many social
activities including bingo, trivia, creative arts & crafts, exercise groups,
special events and church services. Harriet loved celebrating all holidays,
especially Christmas and birthdays. Her intense love of chocolate and of
food was her daily passion!

Harriet’s unselfish giving of herself will be a cherished legacy for her
family and friends. Besides being very involved in her church in the past,
Harriet had been a recognized VON Volunteer in Durham Region. Harriet
will be remembered and loved for her sense of humour and for always seeing
the best in people.

Harriet's faith in God was her source of strength throughout her life.
She lived alone until age 91, with support from family and home care
services. Harriet was content to say that “Saint Peter is waiting for me at
the gate and he is upstairs getting my room ready with pink paint.”

The family wishes to thank all of the wonderful staff at Lakeridge
Gardens LTC for their amazing care and compassion towards Harriet.
A special thank-you is extended to the Ajax Public Library, Home and
Community Care Services Central East, VHA services, Community Care
Durham and the Frazer Heights Cooperative.

All are welcome to join us in celebrating Harriet’s life on Saturday
June 3 at The Simple Alternative, 1057 Brock Road - Pickering. Visitation at 12
noon, followed by a “Celebration of Life” at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, if so
desired, donations may be made in memory of Harriet Foley to Lakeridge
Gardens LTC, Ajax Public Library, or Community Care Durham.

I met Harriet at Bayfair Daycare. We were Early Childhood Educators. Harriet was a wonderful friend as we chatted at lunch time. She loved the children. I remember two songs she sang. 'How be careful little eyes what you see.' and 'Love is something if you give it away.' Harriet lived those little songs. She protected the children from harm and loved them. They loved her back. After I moved away, Harriet and I kept in touch on our birthdays, Easter, and Christmas. Harriet always wrote a little note about her health and especially about her family. She was so proud of each one. She would mention how old the grandchildren were and how fast they were growing up. She loved her family deeply. I will miss her in spirit as well as her cards and thoughts. You can't help but miss a beautiful, kind person as your mother or grandmother or friend. Remember her by doing the same acts of kindness or singing a little child's song of innocence. God bless you and keep you. He will shine His face upon you. He brought His daughter home to live with Him in glory. Good and faithful servant.
