In memory of

Hang Sheung Leung

July 24, 1921 -  August 3, 2019

Hang Sheung Leung was born on July 24, 1921, in Xinhui, Guangdong, China. Her father worked as a chef in Oakland, USA. She was born after her father returned to China. Hang Sheung’s brother was much older, and she had fond memories of being in the loving care of her sister-in-law.

At the age of 18, she married Pun Chi with whom she raised six daughters and one son. The eldest daughter Choi Fung (Wing Lap) and her family live in Hong Kong and the rest are in Toronto; Mary (Raymond), Ada (Alex), May, Stephen (Jane), Mina (Duncan), and Ann. She has twelve grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren; three grand-sons-in-law and four grand-daughters-in-law.

Hang Sheung’s husband was a machinist before he retired, and Hang Sheung worked hard to supplement the family income by sewing and assembling plastic flowers. It was not an easy life while taking care of a growing family, but they worked hard and the family thrived.

After immigrating to Canada, she became deeply involved with Christianity. While she initially was skeptical, she soon discovered faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and the sacrifice that He made for the sins of all people. In December 1988, when bidding farewell to her son and family, who were going to Central America as missionaries, she showed her willingness to believe in Jesus at the airport. Her son led her in prayer and right there she opened her heart to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord of life. Since then, she has not only loved to read the Bible and pray, but also loved God and the church. She was baptized into the church on Easter in 1994.

Hang Sheung was known for her passion for baking and cooking. Whenever she encountered something new, she would try to recreate it for her family. She made beautifully complex wedding cakes for four of her grandchildren and baked for the Church's activities for as long as she could. She was always thankful to God for giving her the strength to serve the church.

The last years were tough for Hang Sheung. She lost her eyesight to glaucoma, but she always had the loving support of her family and her faith in God.

Early on August 3rd, after being hospitalized for pneumonia days before, and with family at her side, she returned to her Lord. Hang Sheung lived a long life, filled with family and faith. She will be missed.
