It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gwenie Agatha Gouveia on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on May 19, 1954, in Buxton, Pomeroon, Guyana, to Hilary and O'Linda Gouveia, Gwen was the beloved youngest of her siblings: Dennis, Gloria, Loretta, Desmond, Patricia (Patsey), Frank, Vibert, and step-sister Hyacinth.
She began her career as a dedicated teacher in the early 1970s before immigrating to Toronto, Canada, in 1975, where she built a new life and later gave birth to her cherished only son, Terence. In her early years in Toronto, while working at CIBC, Gwen joined the companyβs baseball team, enjoying both the sport and the friendships it fostered.
A proud Guyanese, she had a deep love for cricket and followed the game with great enthusiasm. Gwen was also a well-respected cricket scorekeeper, known for her precision and passion for the sport.
She was deeply rooted in her Catholic faith, which shaped her compassion, humility, and devotion to others. Known for her vibrant personality, love of a good party, and infectious laughter, Gwen brought joy and light to every room she entered. She especially loved to dance, often becoming the life of the celebration with her boundless energy and joy.
Her life was a testament to strength, kindness, faith, and unwavering love for her family. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
